I read through this a few times and I still don’t understand the 4-4-7 part

Doesn’t that depend on the number of defenders?

I am not understanding this response. 10 ground units located in West Germany? Assuming all infantry?

If correct then UK is attacking with BB, 4 CA, 7 Ftr and 4 Inf? Total OFP = 41 or 6.83 hits
Axis is defending with 10 Inf? DFP = 20 or 3.33 hits

Thus, based on your theory, twice as many defenders are dying as attackers. This is your justification to buy cruisers?

@andrewaagamer Yes. Not attempting to take the territory, but meat grinding on the Atlantic wall.

OK, thanks for confirming. BTW only 3 of the cruisers can bombard since only 4 ground units are landing. That makes it 38 OFP or 6.33 vs 3.33. Since the retreat comes after round 1 that last infantry is going to die however why not throw in a bomber too to make it 7 dead defenders for 4 dead attackers. That is good money; a bonus of +9 every Turn.

So this will definitely work as long as you can get your opponent to only stack 10 infantry in West Germany every Turn so you can kill 7 of them while losing just 4.

@andrewaagamer Just a quick clarification. Why can only 3 CAs bombard if 4 guys are conducting an amphib assault? I thought the rule was one-for-one.

If there was NOT a combat in the sea zone from which you are offloading units from transports, any accompanying battleships and cruisers in that sea zone can conduct a one-time bombardment of one coastal territory or island group being attacked. The number of ships that can make bombardment attacks is limited to 1 ship per land unit being offloaded from the transports in that coastal territory.

@crockett36 To double the attack as you propose you really should use a bomber, 6 fighters plus 2 tactical. The 8 planes can round robin on the two carriers to achieve a 48 attack:
BB, 3 CA, 6 Ftr, 2 Tac, Bmb, 4 infantry = 47 plus one surviving infantry at 1 = 48.

Note that much of that material is given to America in the set up. A big goal here is to increase the number of allied ships and planes and decrease the number of transports thus infantry. The ships and planes will accrue multiple kills and theoretically few casualties.

I’m aware of Aa guns, Italians reinforcing, etc. Until i can figure out how to have a more efficient shuttle and an unbreakable flotilla, I choose flotilla and the 1-3-2-2-4-2-1. Bb-cr-infantry-art-fig-tac-bom. The 447 sounded better.
