I know. It HAS been done before (last year)
Hopefully ABH and dawgoneit don’t mind, some players don’t.
We’ve also done play-in games before, but that affects everyone in the bracket, slows the whole bracket down. We still have 2 brackets from the 2021 playoffs undone as you know. Or did I miss the result between you and cat?
So I’d rather have a bracket of 2, or else have 2 of the 10 players say they’re fine with retracting their signup, than to have 8 players slowed down, and the #1 and #2 seed having to wait quite awhile for others to see who is the #7 and #8.
Plus… with the OOB playoff contenders ranging from Myygames at 6.00 to our beloved Dawg at 2.50, frankly the #1 vs the winner of the play-in game (and the #2) would not be competitive. I don’t want the #1 and #2 waiting several weeks for a non-competitive game. GAAA I didn’t want to have to say that.
Do you have any other solution? I don’t want to ask for 2 players to drop out. This is blunt also, but the rules could provide that only the top 8 for each game get a playoff, and nobody else gets an organized playoff. But we’ve had provisions for as many players as possible to get gripping playoff action.
I don’t really know how the 2nd-bracket works - its winner gets a shot at winner of “1st-bracket”?
Anyhow, an alternative solution crossed my mind: Maybe some (i. e. two at least) players of 1st-bracket volunteer to play an additional match against a player of 2nd-bracket.
If these two games are won: everything fine.
If the volunteer looses in 1st and wins in 2nd bracket, both he and the 2nd-bracket player will drop out (ofc)
If the volunteer looses both matches, it will be a bit of bad luck for the 2nd-bracket-player, but both will drop out, too.
If the volunteer wins in 1st and looses in 2nd bracket, he may feel a bit unlucky, but will give his spot in 1st-bracket to the originally 2nd-bracket-player.
I would volunteer in such way obviously.
