I find the AI does a much better job on the latest 1942 game. At least as Axis.
How many G40 games have you played?
-
Last two years ~5 times face to face.
Same time ~10 times by forum. -
@Tigue66 Bummer
I think I remember some guys from your area, NJ anyway, that were looking for players. Have you tried “Player Locator” ?

what was your impression of the ftf game compared to online ?
-
2 face2face. About 60-70 online.
-
@barnee Very different, so interesting in its own way. Online pushes strategies a lot further.
-
I actually find online via the lobby quite similar to face to face. It’s play-by-forum which makes the difference.

I have about 15 face to face games, typically against one friend. We play standard G40 2nd ed with NO BID. Whoever loose gets to take the other side next time. We toss inn some beers, wine and other alcoholic beverages to cancel out any need for bids. I havent kept detailed track of it, but its pretty much anyones game and we must be close to 50:50 in win ratios. We also disallow any calculators, so its hard to know if you are 60:40 or 90:10 in big battles
Forum games are completely different as everyone knows. Both are fun, but in different ways.
The tripple A lobby is somewhere in between I think
-
Arround 140 PBF games and 8-10 online games so far, since 2016.
Used to play F2F games in the States. Back then we played the '99 Europe Version and the 2001Pacific one though.
What a blast.Now i only play BM and loving it.

I don’t understand the point of banning calculators. Wouldn’t you just then add up the number of 4s 3s 2s 1s and 0s on a piece of paper? Or do you also disallow pen and paper?
-
@simon33 thats right, no pen and paper!
-
@oysteilo how very medieval!

To go even earlier than the medieval era, I’ve just gotten a mental image of a player using a creative interpretational workaround of the “no calculators and no pen and paper” rule by showing up at the next game with an abacus. Or maybe a slide rule, for a 1940s-style solution.

I Think in our group we have done maybe 10 F2F games, usually reserve an entire weekend where we go to a vacation house to be fully focused. We have a steady group of 4 people with a couple drop ins over the last couple of times, it has really spiced the game up.
Just setting the game up and recapping the rules usually takes 1-2 hours depending on how long time since last and if there is any newcomers.
We allow battle calcs, but beers usually reduces the need later in the game :)
-
I just started playing maybe half a year ago. So ive probably played 10ish games or so
-
FtoF, probably like 60-80ish
On triple a on the league, like 400.
I guess I could go count them up… :thinking_face:

@simon33 calculators are for noobs. Its a waste of time and it diminishes the value of the skill you gain over time. I’m not interested in people squirming around on their phone when they should know exactly what ## of units to bring to each battle–if they cant call it by sight they need to play more.

In face to face games detailed calculations of all and everything is just annoying and no fun. You need to get a rough estimate by looking at the situation and just decide to go for it or not. Simple as that and it is just a game!
