in my table top test of Anniversary edition, which I just got, i have only needed the battleboard a few times, when units greater than 10 on attack and defense.
It’s interesting how bad dice rolls can doom a larger attack force and reshape the game drastically. In this game the dominant countries have each had a really bad turn of dice rolls change their fate. Another thing for dice is the technology rolls, so far, only 1 country has one and many many IPUs were spent trying to get them, which also affected the games early stages for Germany.

@SS-GEN all versions.

Well in my game you can buy it but also in my event cards you receive 2 free tech token cards, 1 free tech and a spy steals a tech. There is like 22 cards in each deck so u have a chance for a tech or 2 in game. You still only spend about 5-10 icps per game. We had 16 techs in a game once and didn’t unbalance game. Not all techs should be good for other countries. Granted some have an advantage but it’s the risk reward in game.

Just found an old Gargantua and grasshopper thread about research facilities. Interesting.
-
@SS-GEN i forgot to ask if i could see or buy these cards.
-
@Swoldier mostly i agree, but we must avoid that distinctly global phenomenon: rewarding the wealth aka the rich get richer! I think the bonuses ought to be innate ie leningrad itself has a bonus that goes to whomever owns it.

The event cards ?
-
is there anything comparable to the Rise of the Kriegsmarine for the allies? I get squeamish about advantaging the Axis in a game that is imbalanced in their favor. I would think modifications to the game of any sort ought to have a ratio of 4:3 or even 3:2 bonuses for the Allies.
-
are there other events cards?
-
@crockett36 Yes Each country has like 20-22 cards. Draw 1 a turn at beginning. Have to use right away.
Event cards for Germany, Japan, Italy, USSR, UK, US, China and France.
There is a guy on East Coast that is playing with them now. 2 groups want a set. They are for d12 dice but they just convert to d6 values and Sz. I plan on making a set for G40 and/or D6 dice. -
They are for d12 dice but they just convert to d6 values and Sz.
What does this mean? I understand converting 12 to 6, but what is sz? And this is not for g40. Then for which game?

SZ = Sea Zone. The East Coast guys are using them for G40 ( convert to D6) now. These cards in D12 I use in my game.

Making Task Force Cards too.

yea I had them as an option one time but lost them when my machine fried. It’s on the list todo. I used it in conjunction with Der Kuentzlers tech chart. Thought it was fun for a change of pace

Can you post link here please. Always looking

@SS-GEN
I found it to be fun. The at war Players were the only ones to get to do research if i remember right. You could also build them and they get bombed like factories. I’ll see if I can find Der Kuentslers tech rules too

wow how cool. Was able to get the old A Bomb xml. Thought it was lost forever :)

OK I checked this Research Facilities post out. I like it too.
With my events cards each country has a chance for receive a free tech card ( roll for tech on chart d10 ) and also 2 cards in each countries deck have it where they receive a free tech token. Plus a spy card that can steal an enemies tech if they have one. You can also buy a tech token for 5 icps.
If UK gets a tech Anzac gets it too in game. Just don’t feel Anzac should get there own tech rolls. So pretty much what I have in game covers most of this topic.
But I could add a Research Facility on map for each capital and now they can be SBR.
If they don’t pay off damage then they don’t get there tech rolls at start of turn.Question is in my game, if you have 4 tech tokens and roll 4 6’s you only get 1 tech and rest of tokens destroyed. So is the damaged facility too much cost for repair ?
Maybe but remember you have a chance for 2 free tech tokens and a free tech in your event cards. Plus a spy steals a tech if you have it.
So a damaged research shouldn’t hurt you that much. If its just in the Capitals most times not bombed. Just can’t buy them for now and each country has one in capital.
Iv’e had games where there’s only 4 tech in game with 20 chances ( all countries) for it and a game where there was 16 techs in game but didn’t unbalance it due to you have to keep your techs to the point where some don’t help and some do or not so over powering. Like Long range air. Make it +1 space and not +2 spaces.
It adds to game of a chance for tech at a low cost but also has small changes to the games and some times during the games.
Most countries only buy 1 or 2 tokens. Ha Ha waiting on free stuff in cards. lol
And as Gar mentioned it gives each country a chance for tech ( and honestly this is the first time I read this topic today ) and more money towards buying pieces in game. Like Russia can’t really buy a token but has a chance for tech but also may not get a good tech. But then might get Rockets, industrial cost -1, long range artillery or radar. Some good ones there for no cost. But you may not get these event cards in game for tech too. LOL.
22 cards each deck and only turn 10 over most in games. Spices it up.
Tech is a thing you have to play around with to what you want it to do in your games. -
I am not inclined to give France a facility given the current turn order and set up. In other words it does what so many house rules end up doing–strengthening the Axis. The British should get two. They came up with so much tech. When at war, the British and the American cooperation might result in an added roll. Italy, no tech. Rus only gets ground and production.
I will say that the best tech system I have ever seen was grasshopper and big al’s deluxe ana chronologically graduated tech chart. It is nation specific and tied to history. but this stand alone mechanic is the best.
do I have permission to read through this thread on my youtube channel?
-
Yes I was a bit involved in deluxe game.
So I know what your saying. Yes history wise give each country tech as war goes on.
The French don’t get tech in game. Event cards are more or less espionage and small stuff.Plus each country gets 2 NAs so they get something at start
What do you mean read Thur you tube ? -
@SS-GEN I have a small youtube channel. I actually read aloud the content on a thread. just another way of getting info into the hands of players who might not scroll down too many pages. 78 subscribers
