2013 G40 League Post Game Results Here - Thread

  • Slight problem.
I don’t believe anyone has the ability to sticky threads in the league section anymore.
We will continue to use the Report league results here thread from before, I guess.  There won’t be a new thread for the new year because we can’t sticky in this section of A&A.org.

As I have not yet lost the limited powers I was given in the play board games section, I could just “modify” the title of the thread from 2013 to 2014 and we can simply carry on……just a thought. If nothing changes by Nov, let me know if you think this will suffice.

13L  PGMatt (Axis) over Whackamatt (Allies +11)

the US went belly up in record time.  A lot of bad dice throughout, mixed with 1 critical error in naval movement, and Japan wins fast.

    Well, actually it was Allies+12;)
You create a track record to either conceal huge bids when losing with the Allies or bloating bets your opponents had when winning with Allies vs you  :-D

I have to say this was a great game and I can recommend people to replay it. It was an extreme race with the Axis throwing everything all-in for a Europe victory which either works in a specific round or the game is over. I have to say I am a bit disappointed not being able to see how it would have gone if the last sea battle would have had an average result. Still good chances for the Allies though but not sure if the game would have been won for sure for the Allies.

That last naval battle didn’t matter if the US won or not.  UK would have finished off the last few units which was the point to clear the blockers towards egypt.  True I would not have piled onto N. Italy and held it, but it would have left 3 extra US transports(plus air) to attack rome followed up with UK.

So in order to hold rome the axis would have had to stack about 15 guys there to make it a coin flip.  That would have left egypt open since I could have attacked it with over 30 units.  The only way to try to hold both was not to finish off russia that turn and send all the german air to rome.

Yes the game would have lasted a bit longer, but with nearly a 2:1 ipc advantage I was content to grind it out.  Avoiding an axis vc win was the only priority.

I know I got really lucky in that last naval battle but if you rewind back to early on in the eastern front I was horribly unlucky which was why russia even fell.  Had all the axis/russian battles gone “average” I think I would have held russia.  Me losing a 95% battle to take back ukraine really sealed russia’s fate.

I would be very interested in playing out an alternate universe continuation (not for credit naturally) where the US achieves the average result to test if your assessment is accurate. I think you may be underestimating Axis options (though the Allies have so many options themselves I can’t play out the scenario by myself, especially since you’ve got a better Allied mind than I do).

We both had luck which shaped the game and you earned the win.

I am just curious if that battle actually cost the game or if I would have lost either way (absolutely admitting this is possible without seeing your alternate moves). Let me know if you’re interested, doesn’t have to be fast play.

In fairness, it could be a lot of extra planning and time with the main benefit going to my A&A education.
