Find league opponents here

    @DizzKneeLand33:

In the rules (Europe is what I’m looking at), “Industrial Complexes and Bases (Facilities)” are listed separately from Units in the purchase phase (pages 27 and forward).  So, an IC purchase with a bid seems like it’s not a unit, but I’ve seen others who think otherwise.

Then again, if you were playing 1 upt for the bid, the UK could just as well place units in Alexandria, Egypt, and AES, and then just spend the 12 IPC’s on turn on for the complex (the bid placement is the same as getting to place 3 units on turn one in Egypt, if that makes sense).  So, it could be worked that way.

Now, placing units in Alexandria and AES while also placing the factory in Egypt – well, that would be an overload to the spirit of the 1 upt rule imho, but I don’t think there’s an official rule one way or the other?!  Interesting idea Karl, that’s for sure!

Gamer told me Mics were units for bid purposes.  Although that may have been just an off hand comment rather than a informed “ruling.”

Anyhow, yeah, I am not so sure how much impact a Mic would be.  As I say you are exchanging first turn units for longer term production power.  Which would lend to the long term UK control of the middle east remains to be seen.

I’m playing as Allies+18 against JuanSpain right now and he allowed me to bid a factory in Egypt.

He eventually captured Egypt in turn 3, but not before having received -70 TUV, split among 2 battles with Italy/Germany and immediately losing egypt to UK again.

Personally I would not grant my opponent a factory in Egypt as a bid because I don’t consider myself strong enough to overcome it.

But that’s just my opinion. At the end you have to decide how confident you are to still win the game.

Well Axisdominion is a much stronger player than I, so I hope it won’ scare him too much!

  • Facilities are valid bid units because they are “units”, and the league bidding rules only talk about bidding “units”.  Also, there is no express league rule against bidding facilities.

I immediately see two advantages to using 12 of the bid for an Egypt complex, instead of bidding ground forces with that 12 and then building a complex UK1:

    1. You could build naval into 98 or 81 on UK1
    2. You can build more on London UK1 because you’re not spending 12 on the minor.

Otherwise, building 12 IPC’s worth of units in Alex, Egypt, and/or Sudan is more effective anyway.

  • I would be happy if my opponent wanted to spend 12 or 15 on a facility with the bid, because I think in every case that would be suboptimal

  • Although, here’s an interesting one.  You could build a minor on Queensland with the bid.  Still, gimmicky and suboptimal.  But interesting, since ANZAC starts with only 10

Wow!  The league champion weighed in!  Maybe I should try to change my bid….

  • :-D

But hey, there’s always the intimidation factor, Karl.  Sounds like Mr. Roboto would be intimidated by that bid.  The surprise and intimidation factor is worth something.  Could even be game winning.

well to be fair, I wouldn’t (yet) give my Allies opponent +18 either, since a sub and 4 inf around egypt seems quite strong imho.

There is one more thing, though. With a factory you can choose to spend all of your starting IPC in Egypt immediately. If germany declares war on Russia G1 and builds land only, it might be valid and that would be a strong fortification.

Right, but I was comparing it to putting 12 IPC’s of units there immediately, which is faster than building them there UK1

Geesh, Roboto.  I’m beginning to think you are indeed not human, but instead just a robot without emotion, contrary to your claims….

I’m not a robot. The “Mr” in front of it clearly shows you that I’m male! And robots can’t me male. Or can they…?

  • That is very interesting, considering you’ve said you’re not familiar with the famous song by Styx

Here’s a sample of the lyrics, which any middle-aged American will recognize:

I’m not a robot without emotions-I’m not what you see
I’ve come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I’m not a hero, I’m not a saviour, forget what you know
I’m just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control

  • Or in our friend’s case, “I’m just a man who plays 60 freaking A&A games per year”  :-D

Sombody has to hold the nerd flag. It might as well be a robot. A male robot.

    I’m like Star Trek’s Data.

    Still looking for opponents!

  • You have plenty of company around here…. No nerds stand out
