@Grandmaster-Bert
nice like the artwork :) Seems as if the unit names are a tad too dark but it all looks good
OOB or BM3

Hello everyone! Completely new to global here. I would like to ask what is the best version to play. Balanced Mod 3 on triple A or the regular version? Also, which version of the two do you play when playing the actual boardgame in person? Thank you
-
Its up to personal preference, ill list out some advantages to BM3 because its my favorite.
-increases likelihood of a longer money game and makes it fairly even.
-There is more money on the board, and there are more diverse bonuses that give incentives to go for various different targets
-marines allow for small island hopping and a little extra punch without buying more transports
-the allies are generally more fun to playI play BM3 in real life only because my opponent is my dad and we are able to play over long periods of time, but if you are playing a game in a single day, probably OOB.
Online, definitely play BM3

Okay since we have one shout out for BM3 I will be the OOB advocate. OOB with a high enough bid is a different game every time. Do the Allies go with an all UK bid in Europe, or heavy with Russian infantry, or put a bunch of money in the Pacific to hose Japan or some combination of them all?
The game is a tension filled event as the Axis tries to win via Victory Cities and the Allies are trying to stop them. After just a few Turns the Axis realizes they can succeed because the Allies failed in stopping them or they are going to fail so they switch to a money game and then the tension shifts to who is going to be able to come out ahead in a long term money game. Since the Allies do not have overpowering National Objectives the Axis still might win in a money game but they may not if the Allies can keep their small money advantage.
In BM3 the Axis pretty much have to make up their minds on Turn 1. Am I going for a VC game or a money game? If they choose VC if they fail it is over as the Allies have just way too much money to contend with. If they go for the money game then yes it is a longer game for sure and and I grant an even game; but for me it is second best to OOB without the tension of the VC game.
I guess one way to decide is do you care if there is a high bid or not? If you want a bid under $20 play BM3. If you are good with a bid of $60 than OOB is better in my opinion.

Out of box, hands down.
-
Also, I have yet to actually receive a 60 IPC bid from Andrew.

@Marshmallow-of-War aka Jonathan how can you say that? The very last game we played face to face before COVID 19 hit, at Ram’s house, I gave your team $60.

BM 3 over OoB.

Yes, you started early, put me on a team with complete newbs who listened to XXX about what do for the bid, and when I showed up 5 minutes late I got handed ANZAC. Meanwhile, you and Ted executed a well-prepared script that you’ve rehearsed many times.
I stand by my statement – I have never received a 60 IPC bid from you.
-
@GEN-MANSTEIN I do not like it but won’t go into why – not the purpose of the thread.

LOL - okay if you feel that way. Let’s not hijack this thread. PM me and we can start a game. You can be Axis or Allies at $60.

Ya go ahead. Start another thread. Maybe some guys want to hear your opinion?
-
@GEN-MANSTEIN Nah, I’ve said it all before.

Sure thing. I’ll email the bid placement.

OOB, no bids.
Gotta stay classic
-
@Alex-Phillips if your play group is not good then yeah vanilla no bid is pretty balanced
-
@Colt45554 We’ve all been playing since the 90’s in our core 4, and we’ve played almost weekly for the last 8 years.
Out of the box with no bids works perfectly. If you find one side always wins, change up the strategy. Its all in the dice rolls any way you play.

Welcome Alex! I am going to have to totally disagree with you on this comment. A good strategy will always win against a poor strategy; no matter how bad the dice are for the Player with the good strategy. There are ways to mitigate the dice and that is what a good strategy does.
I will agree with you that against Players of equal caliber, with equally good strategies, that the dice or a blunder will make the difference.
I do not lose very often but when I do it is probably only about 20% of the time due to really bad dice. The bulk of the time I lose, the other 80%, is due to my opponent outplaying me or I make a blunder that my opponent takes advantage of. Hmmm, I guess those really are the same thing aren’t they… my opponent outplays me.
So the dice are not the difference maker, talent is the difference maker.
Hope you join the league and start playing!

@AndrewAAGamer I’ll be baited. Unfortunately I think there’s a lot of arrogance displayed by some of the more serious/veteran posters like yourself, Gen. Manstein, etc. It puts me off joining any league on here. I like to post the occasional snippet, read interesting strategies, but that’s it, thanks.

You don’t have to play against anybody you don’t want to play against, its fun I promise! You can simply ignore those that you don’t want to deal with.
