that is the three Buttons on the left of the keyboard:
That tones the screen darker and enables you to draw a square of what you like to “screen shot” with you mouse and left button on it. (press mouse button and keep pressed, then move the mouse and release when you have covered what you need)
Screen turns back normal as soon as you release the mouse button.
