two nice techs there, lucky!

By the way, my insight into the fleet placement last turn.
SZ20 off Kwangtung was the obvious choice at first.
However, you could have easily blocked me with 2 destroyers in 19 and 21 and then convoy 10-11 PU in SZ6 with subs, which is quite a lot.
Additionally, I would have to move north next turn, which is not where I want my fleet to be going forward - I prefer them closer to the money islands.I could have tried staying in SZ and moving my destroyer north to amur, SZ5 - but then your sub in 16 would have lived and you could have attacked and probably killed that destroyer with the fighter+bomber in amur and the sub in 16.
Philippines had the same problem, PLUS I couldn’t have placed new ships as easily - they would have been unprotected by the main fleet.
On the flip side, I project more threats from philippines and I can’t be as easily blocked from reconquering Java.SZ37 was no option, because my SZ6 fleet couldn’t reach that.
I toyed with the idea of stacking in the SZ at Guam, placing a harbour there. But that’s 15 IPC to prevent 11 convoy in SZ6, and the problem with not protecting the newly built ships remain…

Hold up, missed a stack of mech in my calc
-
@MrRoboto This looks very interesting, I will digest it when I come back, thanks!
-
I knew there had to be a reason I had several mech and tanks in Bryansk. I’ll get you the real end of my turn in a minute
-
Now I am in SZ19.
I sacrifice Java for 1 turn (ideally), which is 9 IPC. So around what you could convoy in SZ6. However, I can more easily move south next turn (I hope) and I also protect the factory in shantung, which doesn’t need to be stacked with inf now. -
OK, here is the version where you don’t smash Bryansk with 97% because I missed every single mech that is on Ukraine
-
That is fascinating. It will probably make more sense after J9.
So basically, it’s hell to have the US fleet at the Carolines.
I think you worry too much about the subs going to 6. They are out of range of getting back to US fleet for awhile, though they would harass the Eastern Asia seaboard. But now a couple are in the money islands and they can work along with the US fleet more easily. I can’t comment further now, of course.
Thanks for the response less than a turn later - it’s still fresh in our minds - sweet.

Did you see the 60%?
-
I don’t like some of the prices in the game, but 15 for a base seems to be perfect.
Tacs should be 10. Max.

I forced gamerman into a +10.
I wonder if I could have brought him down even lower than that…He chose the same I would have: sub in the Med, art in Sudan.
Good luck and have fun, sir!
How did you manage to get him to agree to that?

@simon33 I’m a lot stronger with the Allies these days, and he knew that

actually no.
My battle calculator says 28% chance to win after 1 round. This number seems more likely too.
I had 42 power, so 7 hits on average against your 9 units. In both turns I hit less than average, so you got away cheaper than intended.

Absolutely, and I agree with the tac. It got changed in PtV, which is one of the good changes imho.
One plane is 3/4 and one is 4/3, both should be priced the same. Right now there is little reason to build tacs. But the cruiser is much worse. Buying a cruiser is the worst thing one can do.
And concerning the subs in SZ6: Yes maybe I worry too much. I did say that I’m uncertain what the best course of action would be there.
You already boiled it down to the main key: Preventing the US fleet at Carolines is the key for a successful Japan.
I let that happen because a big chunk of my fleet was stationed at Malaya and therefore out of reach of Carolines. Now why was that chunk at Malaya? Because of that whole ordeal with Ceylon in turn 6.Was it worth it? I actually don’t know. You had 2 destroyers in the Indian ocean, preventing me from placing a sub to block the Indian NO. I wanted to get rid of them (and I did!). I also convoyed India. And I wanted to threaten the Persian factory, you actually gave me 20% on that!
All things considered, maybe I shouldn’t have gone to SZ19. I am getting convoyed now too, as you already noticed, additionally to losing Java.

I had USA all planned out, and then saw Bryansk is still the way it was when I missed 27 mech on Ukraine.
You may have overlooked the R9 fixed.tsvg in our back and forth. This could affect Japan’s turn - the mech and armor wouldn’t be staring off the Japanese infantry in China.
Here is the edit done after Japan’s turn - all mech, armor and 2 fighters on Bryansk instead of Moscow.
Do you change your Japan move at all?
Don’t hesitate to tell me if you have any protest to this. I don’t know if you saw the R9 fixed file

All but one, rather.
You can see the “fixed” filename posted below, before Japan, which shows that 3 mech, 3 armor, 2 fighters are to be left on Bryansk -
Funny, I actually DID saw the file and downloaded it even!
I must have downloaded the older file too, before you made the fix. When I finally did my Japan turn, I must have opened the wrong one.
I won’t change my Japan turn, go ahead with the Yankees. Although you can easily skip them, you know.

OK, that is what I was hoping to hear.
I’m looking forward to doing weird things around India, as you have already suspected. This has been very fun, and it’s always nice to play someone who you don’t wait on.
