  • Just got my copy today!!. Took my nap at 9am and it was on the coffee table when i woke at noon. Would have been here sooner, but ups left it sitting in texas ALL weekend. Cant wait til i get home from work to check it out. I feel like a kid at christmas, waiting out the last 12 hours

And the part about waking up to find the box on the coffee table definitely has Santa Claus overtones to it.  It would have been even more perfect if the box had been left next to the fireplace (assuming you have one).  Enjoy your new arrival – unpacking an A&A game is always fun, no matter how many times one has done it over the years and no matter how many copies one owns.

  • LOL, I just got my copy today, and one of the 6 fighters in the Italian pack was actually Russian!

Is it a Yak in russian color?
Or do you meant a Yak paint in Italian color?

It’s a Yak in Russian color, identical to the 12 fighters in the Russian bag.

Being colorblind, I can easily understand why these Italians and Russians can be mixed up.

  • Hi guys, are there any new sculpts? There are supposed to be 4 new sculpts? What are the rule changes that were made? When I test-played War Room with Larry Harris the last time at Hampshire College Larry said that he had them switch a few rules that were broken. He didn’t say which rules he wanted changed? My game came on Monday and it looks great! I sold my 50th anniversary game a while ago. Just wondering my fellow game enthusiasts? Thanks!

  • PM Marc. He can best tell you the differences.
Enjoy your game.  Glad you could replace the one you sold.

There are no changes to the rules of the game.  The changes to the Rulebook were done to include the errata and FAQs and to add clarifications.

  • @Gen.Nehring:

Hi guys, are there any new sculpts? There are supposed to be 4 new sculpts?

See my posts of October 21 in this thread for a detailed inventory, and the pictures I posted earlier, but the answer is basically that there are no “new” sculpts in terms of the A&A board games (because the sculpts in the Anniversary reprint have all appeared at some point in one game or another).  Some of the sculpts are “new” in the sense that the original Anniversary edition used different ones, but to me that’s not what I’d consider to be a truly new sculpt that’s never been seen before.

  • And also note that the video in the link posted by GeneralHandGrenade above spends a lot of camera time giving close-ups of the sculpts in the original Anniversary next to the ones in the reprint – so if you’re interested in those specific differences, that’s a source you can consult.  I didn’t watch it in detail, so I don’t know if it corresponds to my recollection of what was in the original Anniversary; knp’s thread here is a good source for that info: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=23386.0

  • They said there are 4 new sculpts (i.e., different from the old Anniversary). It seems like they are the Russian battleship, cruiser, and destroyer, as well as the American fighter.

  • Another apparent difference: in the original Anniversary, Germany and Italy both had a Hipper-class cruiser with a transom (square) stern.  Italy still does in the reprint, but Germany has the newer version of the Hipper-class cruiser, which has a cruiser (pointed) stern.

Did Germany historically have one with a transom stern and one without?

The charitable answer would be “not intentionally.”  I’m not aware of any Hipper-class cruisers having transom sterns…but I know that German heavy warships had a reputation for having structurally weak sterns.  I think that Prinz Eugen’s stern was lost (or had to be cut away) as the result of a torpedo hit; I think that the stern of the pocket battleship Deutschland / Lutzow collapsed under a similar torpedo hit; and I’ve read speculation that the Bismark’s stern design may have been a contributing factor to her loss when a torpedo hit in that area jammed her rudders.

These are all the sculpts that are different from the original 2008 version:

Germany: Bomber (wings not as tilted up and not as pointed), Cruiser (pointed stern), Battleship (bigger)
Italy: Artillery (struts now spread), Battleship (bigger)
    Japan: Artillery (struts now spread)
Russia: Tank (wider), Bomber (wings now flat instead of tilted), Submarine (wider), Destroyer (1942 version), Cruiser (1942 version), Battleship (1942 version)
UK: Fighter (wings now flat), Submarine (wider), Battleship (bigger)
USA: Tank (bigger), Fighter (P38 Lightning now), Battleship (bigger)

From what I can tell they basically used the 1942 spring (version 1) edition units for everything except the Italian Infantry, Tank, and Cruiser.

You can see most of those differences in my video that CWO mentioned (I noticed the German/Italy Bomber, Russian Tank, Russian/UK submarine differences after I recorded the video).

The link that CWO posted in regard to KNP’s “Evolution of Axis & Allies Pieces” is an awesome resource for identifying the differences. Specifically, if you look at page three of that thread (the second picture on the second post) you will see most of the changes I noticed. Hopefully he adds the 2017 Anniversary Edition to his amazing thread.

  • I am more curious of the actual differences.  Does anyone know a good place to get pictures of the original anniversary pieces?

I have all the main games and have struggled over the years to not get the pieces mixed up (as opposed to my friends that just toss all the pieces into large containers).  I have printed lists of the original sculpts so I know what to look at.  Having never owned the original anniversary…I don’t have them…but would love to see them.

  • Some crazy guy is selling this for $175.00 LOL

So what are the advantages of this reprint? Just added errata and a few sculpts?  :-) I think I probably just hold onto my original copy if that’s the case.

  • That is what I am doing, Lozmoid.  I can’t justify the expense.
Hope you have been well, since we last spoke.
