• I have the minor Axis from HGB Europe, an the painted pieces for global war 1939 from USA. The ground pieces I have from my 7 different Axis & Allies Versions.

**@**Star of Africa: 7 different Axis and Allies Versions, you are really lucky one!

  • I have been an avid A&A player since 1990 and have not yet posted on this forum.  Being thoroughly unimpressed by the mass marketed A&A versions, I bought the “Death Head” map in 09 with the intent on creating my own version of Global War.  After a year of play testing, I could not make the mechanics or political situation workable.  After nearly 20 years playing A&A, I had given up.  The game was stale.
Three weeks ago, I stumbled upon the 1939 Global War map.  It was an epiphany.  All the map changes I had made to the DH map were accounted for with a few extra surprises.  After downloading the rules and set ups, I realized that this was exactly the game I was trying to create.  What amazes me the most is the time and dedication the creators of this version devoted to this project.
Well done, gentlemen.  The level of complexity, variable dynamics that insure a different outcome in the first five rounds from game to game, weighting historical advantages of the major powers…it’s all too good to be true.

Thanks LM. The 39 game started by chance but has grown into a great A&A style game. I may have started the process but I have to give a lot of credit to this forum, coachofmany, variable, an the Tulsa A&A team. I had an idea to make my own epic game but coach had a bigger idea!  He really should get the credit for making this game available to everyone. There are a few other guys on the forum that put in some work also…you know who you are.

  • Hey Lee Marvin,

The other thing that’s great about Global 1939 is they also listen too feedback and suggestions from us players.

Perfect example would be the rework of the latest set up charts.

This is a great game and the people behind it are great also.

  • I noticed mention of new set-up charts.  I looked at the 6.1 set-up charts on boardgamegeek and noticed that only the tech research charts have been updated.  Were the starting unit placement charts supposed to be updated as well?  If yes, I am really hoping that the nerfed Italian fleet in 6.0 gets replaced in 6.1.

    :-)

Sorry guys, in my haste to give you the updated setups i saved it incorrectly. We will get them om BGG asap

  • '14

Here is a link for the updated 6.1 setup charts.  We will have them on Bgg soon, but you can get it here in the mean time.

  • No kidding about listening to feedback…the German cruiser in the South Atlantic is a prime example…I’ll play this weekend and post my first after action report…Two player game, very dedicated and experienced dudes…we’ve play tested the first five rounds 3 times now and have dedicated Fri night through Sunday for a marathon of carnage…our wives have decided to leave town for the weekend so we are golden.

I would love to learn your secret for this…

  • Tigerman, when do you think your new map will be done.

I intend on buying an 8ft version.

Will it be ready by the end of the year?

  • Sponsor '17 '13 '11 '10

It is slated for next year.

Hi, I’m John! I’m new to the forums. I’ve been reading every page of this forum concerning the Global 1939 variant, and I’m a bit confused. I know that this map is sold at the HBG website.

Is this map not the revised one you are talking about, or is there another map in development, next year, besides this one?

Also, what was the reason that the airbases and naval bases were not included on the revised version?

If the map on the HBG website is the revised version, will their be more units produced for it or are they completely gone for good?

Sorry for all these questions, but I’m confused. I’m only interested in the latest version and I don’t won’t to buy something, if a new version is coming out, and if there is a new version, what is going to be the difference between the revised and the new Global 1939?

    Thanks for any replies!

The Global 1939 map on the website is the latest and greatest. We are working on a 1936 Global Map but it will have setups for 1939 and 1942.
It will be quite different from this version which is still a great game.

Thank you for the quick response! I noticed your out of the units. How soon, will you have more units for the 1939 Global Game?

    Thanks,

    John

  • Hi, folks,

My map is at the house in my wife’s closet, and I have to pretend I don’t know what she got me for Christmas.  In the meantime, I have a couple of questions.  First, I have counted the US IPC totals on the online map, and I keep getting 40 on the Pacific side, but only 39 on the Atlantic side.  The set-up chart says the total should be 80.  Here’s what I see on the Atlantic side:

    Great Plains - 2
    Deep South - 2
    Appalachia - 6
    SE US - 4
    Washington - 8
    New England - 4
    Cuba - 1
    Panama – 2
    2 convoys at 5 each

Am I just missing something, or is there a misprint?  If it’s a misprint, I guess we could add a U.S. national objective for 1 point.  Maybe “U.S. Treasury Secretary finds loose change under couch cushions after martini is spilled on them upon hearing that Germany invades Poland?”

My other question is:  How hard is it to get the map to lay flat?  Would a stack of quarters on the corners be enough?  Or will I want to get some plexiglass to put over the whole map?

    Thanks.

  • The vinyl map is of very high quality.  Mine lays perfectly flat although it did take a short break in.  No plexiglass required.

  • Thanks, dboss.  That’s good to know, because I priced plexiglass, and it would be over $100 to get enough to cover this monster.  I’m already going to have to fork over some cash for, at a minimum, a big piece of plywood to lay over my 30" x 72" folding tables.  Fortunately, plywood is available in 4’ x 8’ sheets.

  • Get the good plywood with one side sanded. Then I cut mine in half for easy moving and bought 4 x 8 plexi for 75.00. I would cover the map with something. Just keep lights on it to the sides so you don’t have glare.

    Hi,

I got 41 IPCs on the Pacific side and 39 on the other one. I think you missed Guam at 1 IPC, or is it Alaska ?  You realised that I had to take out and unrolled my maps because it bugged me too.

    J. 8-)

PS It is the same # on the first and second edition map ( yeah, I have both of them :)  )

I like the fact you took my map and took it one step further, but it does piss me off that I gave it to you and the community for FREE. Now you charge people for it.
Alot of time and effort went into making that map which you have openly admitted to using it as a template for yours.

Some where in these pages it says that the map file will not be released for down loads and it has to be purchased thru HBG. I call shenanigans.

that map is still my map with new clothes on.
its like if I bought a new ford car, repainted it and sold it as a Danmobile. Its still the same car.

Now I don’t have any problem with HBG providing a service, ie printing and shipping of the map.
I do have a problem with any variation of my map being sold because it is otherwise unavailable any where else.

Any map or variation of the map that will use MY map as its base template, WILL be available for free as a down load with suggested ways for the downloader to be able to print that map.

I have received no royalties (not my objective) otherwise which gives you no right to sell my idea, no matter what clothes you dress it up in. By all legal rights, those maps are my maps, unless you started with a completely blank sheet of paper, which you have admitted you didn’t.

I absolutely love A&A and I encourage the development of this beautiful map, your variation and my original. But a FREE download WILL be available for all period.
I don’t care if you are a site sponsor or not.

If you so choose it to be only available via purchase thru HBG,  I want some sort of compensation for my time and effort. Again not my main objective.

How would you feel if some one stole your free idea and started making money off of it?

Not saying I will because I definitely do not want to, but I can and will kill this thread on the basis of plagiarism. I Really Really hope it doesn’t come to that because I know alot of people enjoy the maps in the “global war” section. And as long as there is a free map download for everyone to enjoy, we won’t have any problems.
