  • Dang ! :+1:

  • Thanks, what a re-post. A thread for the ages.

  • Updated for North Africa and Renegade’s Guadalcanal reprint.

  • @Krieghund Fantastic! I’ll delete my edits then, only one note - the Soviet/French fighter is always a Yak 3, the MiG 3 is very different and was never used in A&A.

  • @reloader-1 Hmmm, it looks like you’re right. It is listed as MiG in the Rulebook, and that seems to be an error. I have modified the list accordingly.

  • @Krieghund Updated for Renegade’s Battle of the Bulge reprint.

Is the “.R” stand for reprint or Renegade? Where I see it used it seems like Renegade (the other use is for Guadalcanal.)

I thought Renegade was doing straight reprints of the miniatures and your list appears to confirm this as well for AA50, A42.2, A41 and the 40.2 games? How closely do the Renegade reprint colors match if you happen to know?

  • @Meles The “R” does stand for Renegade. They are straight reprints for the most part (no rules are being changed), but Renegade is including FAQs and errata in the Rulebooks, and even upgrading physical components in some cases. As far as the minis go, in some cases they were upgraded to newer sculpts that were not available at the time the original game was published, while in others the original molds have been lost and other sculpts were substituted. As for the colors, I’m not sure how well they match, as colors can vary slightly between print runs, even when done by the same factory.

Very helpful and this guides me on some decisions. So Renegade has reprinted AAE40.2 and I’m assuming this AAA gun is the same; 8.8cm Flak 41 in AAE40.2.

I didn’t notice in the list any Renegade upgrades to more historically accurate miniatures. Do you have an example, so I might understand how to spot these differences via your list? I am clerically challenges so pardon me for not knowing how to spot these updates.

  • @Meles See the Japanese naval units.

Aargh. I see the .R for most of those entries. Good move by Renegade to use those sculpts more. I have limited need for them, but tempted to buy AA41 just to have those different sculpts. I’m a bit demented and decided to make everything match in my collection via expanding my mini pool with a 2nd copy of AA40E.2. I’ll probably get a copy of AA41 2E since its colors have a chance of matching with World.2E. (Hopefully this makes sense as I’m nodding off at the keyboard as i write.)

Well it turns out that it is mainly the Japanese sculpts that are interesting in AA41 and the rest is comically off. I won’t be getting AA41 for its miniatures since for Japan that is 4 transports, 3 submarines, 2 destroyers, 2 air craft carriers, and 2 battleships with unique sculpts in AA41. 2 US Destroyer: Sumner class. 4 US Fighter: P-40, 4 UK Transport: Fort class, 3 UK Submarine: U class, 2 UK Battleship: Hood class, 2 UK Strategic Bomber: Lancaster, 2 German Strategic Bomber: He-111, 4 German Fighter: Fw-190 in AA41, 5 German Tank: Tiger I (ridiculous), 2 Soviet Carrier: Project Kostromitinov in AA41, and finally 5 Soviet Tank: IS-2.

Well I wouldn’t mind a copy of AA41. GameNerdz in US has some older printings (not Renegade) for $20 which is a good price, but they have 24 in stock as I write so I’ll take my time thinking about this.

@Meles I’ve had good luck monitoring Facebook Marketplace and eBay and waiting until the $15 mark or so. I think AA41 is a great source of ‘variant’ pieces you can dot with a paint marker for Early/Late, Heavy/Light, or just mix-in variety versions of the standard units. Others are game-readable and useful right out of the box e.g. Japanese carriers & TBD/DDLs, Russian IS-2s, German Tigers, and US P-40s (finally get that P-38 out of China!). In my experience, the color match over the years is no worse than any other edition-to-edition variation.
