This thread is about Napoleon and the Coalition (NATC), a homemade game that some close friends and I have been working on for over two years now. We are great fans of Axis & Allies (A&A) but wanted a comparable game for the period 1805-1815.
Put very briefly, NATC is a game where you take control of the great powers of Europe during the Napoleonic Wars, and battle for control of Europe and beyond (from Great Britain to Persia).
As in A&A, there is combat, non-combat movement, collecting money and purchasing units, but NATC also has some diplomacy, leader units (Napoleon and Wellington), fortresses and fortified shipyards, special rules to cover the Russian winter & Spain flipping sides, and a whole host of other new aspects to provide the feel of Napoleonic warfare.
We created the map with the help of an outside designer, and some of the units were 3D made and printed by me, but most of the other components are from a variety of other games and sources. We will describe where the game components can be obtained on the game’s website (which is under development but should be completed soon). We will also be releasing more content about the game on the website, like videos and rules, among other things.
We (myself and NATC’s co-creator MikeF-AusTX), are happy to answer any questions about the game, and would love to hear any feedback, comments, suggestions or ideas. This game has been a passion project of ours for a long time now, and it is finally nearing completion.

Ah I see you have regular AA pieces mixed in.
No way you can take those out or are representing a different ship until u make correct ships ?

@GEN-MANSTEIN Yes, there are a few regular A&A pieces mixed in. I wanted to spend more of my time working on the game play rather than building the models, also I’m not that good at 3D modelling. I do plan to replace the A&A destroyer units with my own 3D frigate models:

@Imperious-Leader Thanks for your question. Based on the research Patrick and I did, although Scandinavia was not a central theater of activity during the Napoleonic wars, there were a number of small campaigns/wars such as Sweden’s fighting with the Third Coalition against France in 1805-07, its wars against Denmark/Norway in 1808-09 and against Russia over Finland, and finally its joining the Sixth Coalition in 1813-14. Despite occasional shifting alliances, it seems Denmark/Norway were reasonably faithful French allies during 1805-13 and Sweden was usually allied with Britain for most of that time. In our test games, Scandinavia can be rather strategic since controlling the Baltic can allow amphibious invasions of not only Northern Europe but also Russia and even Britain (via Denmark). @Witt Thank you!; While we do have a very outdated set up chart, we have mostly been going off of set up photos, which have just been easier to use. I am planning on making a set up chart soon, but for now here is one of my set up photos (Chip system is same as A&A G40 With Yellow = 10 units)
@crsluggo Thanks for your comment on our map. We (especially Patrick) worked very hard on it (there are many prior versions). We are pretty happy with the current version (as pictured) and appreciate your liking it. Please stay tuned as we will have more updates in the near future.

They are produced by Morrison Games (as are many of the land units) and are available via Amazon. As Patrick mentions below, we have been working on our own 3D Frigates and Transports and have decent prototypes but are still perfecting them.

@MikeF-AusTX The thing is you have some neutral states like Spain, then others like Norway and Sweden are de facto colonies of France and UK respectively. Its just wrong. Sweden Hated Russia and didn’t commit troops to continental Europe, and certainly would not be a puppet of England. Countries aligned but neutral should have their own income and different armies like you have with Spain
@Imperious-Leader We would have loved to make Sweden an independent country in our game but we would also have had to do so with Denmark/Norway (and cases could be made for Portugal and Naples). Ultimately we were limited in available colors for units and also were concerned about the extra playing time when you have too many countries. That doesn’t mean either one is a “colony” or “puppet”, just an ally like the countries named above (among others). By comparison, Mexico is shown as a US Territory in A&A Global 1940 even though it was an independent ally. Also, don’t forget that Swedish and Russian troops fought together under Bernadotte in the 1813-14 campaign.

The pieces from Viktory II are simply fantastic for any game in the Napoleonic era. The 9 available colors gives the gamecrafter great flexibility.
