I’m kicking myself for not adding another blocker to keep the US from landing in Guam. I misjudged the odds if you moved your fleet inwards without blockers. I think I was checking the fleet without scramble support and forgot to consider that too.
I moved the German sub to the Philippines thinking that is the most likely spot the Japan fleet will end up. With blockers on your stack in 54 I think I can have the odds in both Japan and Philippines although it would certainly be close. And at least the Philippines blocks you from setting up in the islands and probably permanently denying them to me. Although I imagine it means you get a foothold in Korea and would be hard to dislodge from 6 after. I also considered Paulau because it would put me in between your two fleets and threaten ANZAC and deny you the bonus, but it allows you to go north safely without blockers or south to secure an island with blockers. I also considered Hong Kong since it would mean at least one less blocker but it also seemed that you could certainly set up the fleet securely in the money islands if I did that. I didn’t think it would be a good move for me to simply build and wait in 6.
I’m also seriously considering attacking your fleet. My odds are about 45%. That obviously could effectively end the game if I lose badly (and maybe also if I win dramatically), but I’m not sure my odds are better than 45% in the game if I don’t. And even a narrow loss where you lose your carriers and comparable TUV might be okay for me?
Anyway I feel a bit out of my depth with this situation. After I make my move, one way or the other, I’d be curious how you would have handled this. Might get to it in the next hour. Otherwise it will likely be tomorrow.
-
Guam wasn’t that obvious of a move for me, I was considering doing Philippines with some blockers even with Guam as an option. And you can’t block everything every time, even though blocking has generally been successful for you this game.
You can stack both Philippines sz and Japan sz?
-
I can’t hold both sea zones but I can just barely get better than 50% odds on 35 and in Japan itself. One thing I have to now be careful about is that even with blockers for Japan, you could use the US air on Japan first and then land the ANZAC units. So I have to leave enough back in Japan to make that move unlikely.
-
Yeah that was part of the Guam move. I calced it quickly and you should be able to do both, just can’t use the air for attacks this turn.
-
quick question. When you leave land units on transports for a turn I know it means that on the subsequent turn, you are not committed to landing both in an amphibious attack. Does it also mean you can split them up in the landings so that one transport can allow landings on two locations?
-
No, 1 tp can only unload in 1 territory.
-
@Adam514 Thanks. I was pretty sure that was the case, but wanted to be sure.
-
Sorry, another question. If I attack your fleet at 21 and we get to a point where you are down to BB and air and my surviving subs roll more than 2 hits do you lose the transports then or does it only happen after I have won the battle. I’m wondering if there is a situation where I can retreat surviving units but because of the subs still hit your transports.
-
I’ll lose tp, but if you only have subs remaining vs tp and air, you aren’t supposed to be allowed to retreat since the air can’t hit you and there are only NC ships left.
I don’t see that happening though, if you change your OOL to keep subs I’ll change mine to keep DDs.
Off to sleep, take your time.
-
@Adam514 Yeah, sorry, I need to think about this move a bit more today.
Just to clarify, if I end up in a situation where you have most of your air , 2 battleships, 3 cruisers and a destroyer and my surviving subs get 7 hits, that would then take out the surface ships and the transports. At the end of that round, I might still have BB and a few air left and you would still have air. In that case, I would still be able to retreat?I know it is not particularly likely. I have just been playtesting that combat a few times and felt like a situation like this arose.
-
If both sides have combat units that can hit each other, you can retreat.

This might be a ridiculous choice on my part, but I decided to go for it. I saved it here but I think its a fairly safe bet that you would max the scramble, so I will do the other combats and head to my first roll here.

a bit better with the rest of the fleet. I hope I didn’t presume to much with the sub hit or the scramble. Let me know the rest of the OOL
-
Farmboy, invite your submarine commanders to take a swim…using the torpedo tube to exit at 300m depth.
Overall it’s 3.8 hits below average. In fact disappointing.
Is the battle deciding the game in case it goes big in one or another direction?
-
You can do max defense in the first 1-2 rounds, and taking Anzac and UK units as casualties before US ones of same value. Keep DDs if you keep subs.
It’s similar to my TJ attack, he can retreat viably.
