    Sorry, this one please.

We could still have some more game, a remote win option in Pacific exists with a favourable dice for me attacking the Australian fleet next J12 with 15 planes vs 13 and so many carriers, average says +20 but above +80/100 could provide game.

In normal circumstances I would wait to see that outcome, spetially given a title is being decided, and I know that is what almost every player would do, but today is a beautiful year end day and we don´t have time to reach that battle and see the result, and I want to have and give some presents today.

Even with a loss I get classified for next league play-off, my present will be starting that play off from scratch for the new year and not starting the year playing a game that I am not loving, and you absolutelly deserve this win and title, so I want to give you this new year present today.

My most sincere Congratulations Tobias!!! You are the new Champ! Completelly deserved! Enjoy the night my friend!

    Juan

  • well stated and congrats to the new champ! certainly a most deserving player.

and also, congrats to you Juan for making it this far.

may you both have a joyful new year’s celebration

Wow, I am very very happy I made it!
Thanks for the kind words Juan, as usually you have been an extremely strong opponent, great gentlemen, and great sportsman!

I admit, I kind of disagree that resigning without trying to attack sz54 is any kind of present. An attack at sz54 had 83% odds but would have been 100% ill-advised and a 100% route for Japan to a rapid demise. I have set up a counter-attack with 9 bombers, 10 figs, 1 tac, 1 sub and 1 carrier that would smash every unit that would survive the 54 attack at 100% odds and that would have come with a huge TUV gain.
And after that Japan would have been nowhere close to get India, Hawaii or Sidney and I believe a Japanese VC victory would have been impossible even in case the Germans would have tried to rush India.

In my opinion, in case you would have wanted to try a hail mary attack you could have tried it in Europe:

    • Italy attacks Turkey and Germans hope for a miracle when attacking Greece at 22% odds.
Or you don’t scramble at sz97 and try an 1/2 attack on my fleet in 99.

sz54 was imo the worst spot on the map for a desperation attack.

In hindsight, you made some decisions in Europe that really surprised me. If you like I could provide you with some of my thoughts on that.

But for now, I will celebrate and drink another glass of Champagne, cheers :-)

Happy new year to you, my friend and all the spectators of this thread.

    Best regards,
    Tobias

Many thanks! I enjoyed a great night and am now just getting up!

Please send those comments re Europe on a private message, I really appretiate them and will learn frlm them for sure, it will be my second present.

Re the combat, yeah, it was a very remote possibility, something like making around 40 hits overall to you and recieving only 25 defense hits and thus saving 5 carriers, 10 planes, a destroyer, 2 cruisers and 2 damaged battleships. I saw a 16 vs 1 hit once in a large balanced battle against me (vs Mr Roboto 2014 or 15), so not impossible and on other circumstances I would have waited to see that outcome.

All the best in 2019 to everyone!

    Keep playing!

    Juan

Congratulations to jdow for the win and juanspain for reaching the final.

I’m inclined to think I would have done what zhukov44 did to jdow in the 2015 final, if I’m remembering rightly. That had the exact same stack at Yunnan and the axis chanced to hit it without declaring war on the western allies. That is roughly a coin flip, with a slightly negative tuv value for the axis but killing the Soviet planes is worth way more than a part of Japan’s air force imo. Now this battle can easily go wrong and we would be talking endlessly about how ill advised it was.

One thing I’d probably have done differently to that though is to take fic and lose the 8ipc, and do a j2 dow.

Anyway, we could talk endlessly about might have beens. None of this is what actually happened and I didn’t qualify.

    Congrats again to both players.

Oh actually I think it was jdow as axis in 2015.

@simon33 Thank you Simon and happy new year!

Yes, in my final back then I simply did allow the Allies to stack Yunnan and then I attacked. I got good dice in that battle but in J4 a major disaster to take Java that had a 0.5% chance. This threw Japan back.

In the end I played a rush on Moscow and Zhukov managed well to bring significant fighter support in time. I could have attacked Moscow but I refrained from doing it because I was afraid of bad dice and I thought I could overwhelm the Allies in a long game.

However, the healthy bid plus great play by Zhuk made me regret this. I had 2 chances for a major battle and in hindsight I should have gone for it (Moscow G6 or 7) and later I could have attacked TJ at 70ish% odds or so.

Anyway, I lost my first final and thus I am even more happy that I could bring the title home in my 2nd attempt :)
