A&A 1942 review with pics at BGG

I have Revised (2004), and I will be getting 1942 2nd Ed.  Because the Revised map is pretty much the same as 1942 1st Ed., I figured I could just play 1942 on the older board. I have the instruction book PDF. I also saw the set up info on the Resources page, but I was wondering if any of the members here actually made their own cards or if they have a really good scan of them or something like that (I would be printing them out and laminating), because let’s face it. I just have no skill doing that kind of stuff.  Thanks  =)

Generally, I like the idea, but I think the Allied counters I proposed, if properly executed, should leave the Axis with - well not PROBLEMS, but not an out and out victory either.

Strat bombing is good in 1942 also, far better than Revised.  Bombers drop to 12?  Woaah.  I mean, yeah, I’d probably still want to use bombers against hard targets, but this is ANOTHER whole Craig Coburn thing where he takes these Jap bombers and I-Bombs Russia.  He never COULD pull it out in Revised, but 12 IPC bombers changes things, it really does - especially with the new costs, insta-death transports, and even sub fodder rules.

Thanks for the welcome! I’ve been busy with work and haven’t taken pictures yet haha. I have however finished Germany and now working on America… Germany in my opinion looks 100 times better than Japan… I should’ve used the Russians as my starters since the vast majority of their pieces just sit in the box…

Yeah I too plan on buying AAP40 and AAE40… Painting all those will keep me busy for lord knows how long.

just picked up another copy at Target.  they had them on clearance at 50% off, or $15 each.

I think it also needs to be mentioned that Algeria and SZ17 are not adjacent.  The map, as printed, suggests that they are.

Overall the changes are positive imho.  Revised is a classic game and deserves another run and the chance to appeal to a new generation.  AA42 takes the best innovations from Anniversary (ie naval rules and units) and applies them to Revised.  It should be interesting to see how the strategies change.  It’s also a good move to remove tech–Revised works better w/o tech because tech is about luck and detracts from the strategic aspect.  With dice, luck is already a sufficient factor in the game.

Could be a big hit.

We know that the map territories will be exactly the same as revised. We know that the naval rules from AA50 will be implemented in AA42. It has not been confirmed that all the other rules from AA50 will make it into AA42. My guess is that all rules from AA50 will enter the new AA42, with possible exceptions of the 4 optional rules in AA50.
At this time it’s only speculations, but it would be cool if also the optional rules from AA50 will replace the current revised rules.

At least we won’t have a broken China in AA42 :-D :-) :lol: :roll:

but do like 1 thing bout revised map that i hate in AA50: scandinavia
(5 IPC is to much, and you can’t control it with germany for more than 2 rounds max)
