Painting my 1942 set

No big news of course, as most of you will know, but I wondered why there is no link to the rulebook of Spring 1942 in this subforum.
At least not a stickied one.

May be it is because Wizards/AH made them available to the public some time after the release of the game.

Map & setup changes:

UK Battleship on SZ13 replaced with a Cruiser UK Destroyer on SZ35 replaced with a Cruiser US Destroyer on SZ10 replaced with a Cruiser J Destroyer on SZ50 replaced with a Cruiser Formosa (J) and Iceland (UK) have been added to the map Western Canada now only borders SZ64 (on Revised it bordered Central US, SZs63 & 55) Central US now borders Eastern Canada and Panama instead of W. Canada and Mexico

You’re right about the paper IPC’s - they’re missing from the Spring 1942 edition and I also use the IPC notes from my second edition game.
I don’t recommend using the technological advances from the old game in the 1942 edition. Apart from A&A being better without tech anyway (imho), the second edition advances are really unbalanced and tend to disrupt the natural course of play, to some degree even turning it into a game of chance rather than skill.

I don’t like tech myself either since Classic but I’d say that you if need to have tech on your games then check the AA50 tech chart. It has nearly all of the techs from Classic and 6 new techs.

Generally, I like the idea, but I think the Allied counters I proposed, if properly executed, should leave the Axis with - well not PROBLEMS, but not an out and out victory either.

Strat bombing is good in 1942 also, far better than Revised.  Bombers drop to 12?  Woaah.  I mean, yeah, I’d probably still want to use bombers against hard targets, but this is ANOTHER whole Craig Coburn thing where he takes these Jap bombers and I-Bombs Russia.  He never COULD pull it out in Revised, but 12 IPC bombers changes things, it really does - especially with the new costs, insta-death transports, and even sub fodder rules.

I know after the first round the game can vary, I was just tired of the Japs killing the Hawaiian Island fleet every first round and having the same pieces to work with, just an alternate set-up would perhaps make the game feel fresh and even more fun setting up the game. I know everyone on this website will hate me saying this but setting up RISK is more exciting with the random assignment of territories, each game is completely different.

This version is only a few months old and it has all new naval pricing, a new boat, different initial naval set ups,  new BR rules, cheaper bombers. Those changes alone make it radically different than revised. Add in the dice roles and you have no idea what round two is going to look like.
