  • Attacked Austrian controlled Tuscany for one round just to weaken him disproportionately to prevent him taking Pied. Battle odds were he would lose 8 inf and I would lose only 4 inf. Austria rolled above average, but he still lost more. Since his inf were supported by artillery, he would lose attack of 2, same as my defenders. More importantly, most Austrian infantry were in Tusc, while artillery were in Milan. So remaining army is mostly artillery, with few grunts to take hits. Same for Austrian builds in Venice and Trieste. I forgot to take amphib artillery as a hit, so it went second round. Finally got tech which helps defense.

  • @aequitas-et-veritas Earlier this year in a prior 1914 team game, I was looking at neutral territories for USA to build a factory in Europe; and Castile, Navarre and Catalonia were at the top of the list for low ratio of defenders to point value of territory and proximity to USA and/or France/Italy. Castile has higher build capacity and if you build mobile units, the extra distance doesn’t matter if going to France. “The Yanks are coming” “Yankee Doodle do or die” lyrics from “Over there”.

  • @witt All my French plans are changed with your move to Burgundy. I’ve always wondered about the strategy of moving en masse, but never tried it. Depends on the relative strength of the forces in Paris, Burgundy and troops on the German border. Trying to think thru my response.
