I like the move to Finland. Sets up a grinder in the north. Need to kill German units. Pretty much the same in Tunisia
Sorry to bring up old info, I thought you had backed of Tambov and reinforced Samara? Just curious to find out your thinking since this is a learning game.
I changed my mind and went for a bit more balls. The position is clearly better in Tambov with more pressure south. The battle is fairly even, which I believe is at Germany’s disadvantage. Especially since they get an expected negative TUV.
Of course, if G attacks and is lucky, R might be screwed, but that is very unlikely. Partly there is force to counter-attack and partly the Allies can fly in a lot of air for defence.
An alternative was to put up a blocker in Bryansk, but that will just get killed and I think I looked at it and decided that it wasn’t worth it if I could instead keep both Moscow and Tambov safe.

I haven’t finalized the move yet. Forgot. I’ll try and look at it.

Is the UK 6 Turn finalized yet?

Are the two French infantry on a US or UK transport?

US

Italy 6: Is my capital safe? The US has a 4 infantry, 2 mech, artillery and cruiser bombard followed by a UK 3 infantry, armor, 2 fighter and 2 cruiser + battleship bombard. Need significant forces to defend against that.
Strategy: So, Africa is lost and the Russians are having a heyday. Italy did not do its job properly. Let’s at least try to stop any further bleeding by not staying in Libya where the US can smash those forces leaving Tobruk for the Russkies. Recapture the Continent and send help to the Eastern Front then sit behind sandbags and watch the massive Allied fleet steam around in the Med.

I think it was a mistake to stick the fleet in 93. the allies might very well destroy it anyway, but they would have to work harder to do so, and get pulled more out of position, if it was in 97.

Thank you for joining in on the conversation! So why move to SZ93 versus staying in SZ97? Bear in mind Germany has not gone yet. Once they do the entire Luftwaffe will be in position to hit both SZ93 and SZ97.
If the Italian Fleet stays in SZ97 they do get the benefit of a 3 fighter scramble. However, UK has such a massive combined fleet from SZ92 and SZ81 that the Axis would not scramble anyway against such an attack. So the advantage of staying is lost. By staying the US can stay in SZ91 continuing to threaten Normandy and Western Germany while the UK combines their fleet and wipes out the Italians and does convoy disruption on SZ97.
By moving to SZ93 the Allied fleet in SZ81 cannot not now hit the Italian Fleet. Thus any US+UK or UK only attack is far less than before which means that hopefully more losses will occur on the Allied side of the battle. Also with the German air force threat the UK will not be able to send only the SZ81 fleet to SZ97 or it will be wiped out. In addition, any fleet left over in SZ93 will also be at risk and any fleet in SZ93 must be balanced by some fleet in SZ91 or remove the threat of additional Allied landings.
Thus unless the Allies ignore the Italian fleet at the very least SZ97 will not be convoy disrupted as much as they would have been and perhaps one or more Allied units will die attacking the Italian fleet in SZ93. If even one more Allied unit dies and 4-5 more IPCs are collected by Italy than this would have been a successful move.

No dice rolled. This is the suggested turn.

@AndrewAAGamer I see your point. The fleet is done anyway and this gives it another turn perhaps or allows it to cause more attrition.
But if I’m the allies this turn, I probably would just stack 97 and take Greece (assuming both those can be held but it looks on the face of it that they could). I would wait to wipe out the Italian fleet for when I have my air and navy combined in 97 since they can’t go anywhere and can’t do any damage.
One thing to consider is that if the Germans hold Yugoslavia (or S France), you might have had more opportunities to save that fleet. Its often not worth it, but those become routes to get german units in the Med or to allow the Germans to build airbases to support the Italian fleet.

the anzac/french turn looks good to me.

A’ight. Finalized.

I apologize for the delay. Things have been out of control busy-wise. I am going on vacation and will not be back for a week. I am unsure of my internet possibilities however if I can take my Turn while I am gone I will otherwise it will be a bit.

Ah, the full play-by-forum experience. I’m impressed.
(No, seriously, I’m impressed. This has been a great game.)

I haven’t followed this game much this summer. It looks like the Allies are in good position with Moscow held firmly and the Middle East is relatively strong. Once the Italian fleet is demolished this turn, convoy raids in the Med should dramatically tilt the game economically. With a Russian income of 27 PU/turn, Germany cannot make much progress for the foreseeable future. Japan’s unusual China gambit did not pay dividends as the air force is now bogged down trying to defend the coast.
Does anyone else have the same analysis.
