Scramble question (pic) and thoughts on weird game

  • It is the beginning of the round so it is Germany’s turn. The UK men are loaded on the US TTs. If I purchase a plane an place it in W. Germany. Can I scramble that plane if the US moves the 6tt to sz 112 even though there is a Russian Sub? All men on board and the 6TT would be killed, correct?

  • Another pic to show how weird this game is right now.

If USA escorts the transports with those fighters, bombers and tact your scramble will be destroyed and the transports will live.

  • ahhh okay, so they can be escorted….IF they are escorted and I do not scramble, does that count as the move?

  • You can’t scramble on the US’s turn, because no amphibious assault is occurring then. However, if the Brits try to offload for an amphibious assault on their turn, you can scramble and prevent it (provided the Brits don’t send air/naval into SZ112 to protect the assault), but don’t get to kill the transports, as they are not British and technically are not participating in the attack.

  • So what happens? The men just stay on the TT?

  • So, if the UK doesn’t have any planes at the moment, then they won’t be able to land out of sz 112 if I have a plane correct?

Correct, they will be forced to stay on the US transports if you scramble a plane against their amphibious assault. Watch out for the US bombing your airbase to prevent you from scrambling, though.

This is an interesting and weird situation.
So tell me if I have this right.
On the US turn, they move the 6 transports (loaded with UK land units) to SZ 112 during their NON-Combat move. Since there is no amphibious assault happening, the German fighter can not scramble as there is no defending anything in that sea zone.
Then on the UK turn, they want to land their troops. However, Germany has a fighter to scramble. In this case, that fighter would simply keep the UK units from leaving the US transports, but not actually shoot at any of the transports since they are not actually attacking. So basically, the UK land units, US transports and German fighter would all simply stay put.
The only way Germany could do anything about the transports would be on their next turn by sending aircraft after them. So it would be up to the US to either move the transports or get some warships up to protect them.

  • Yes, that is right Knp. Krieg explained it all a few months ago.
    Weird, like you say.

    That’s really interesting knp,

What would happen if UK had men on the USA TT and on UK’s turn those men wanted to go assault Denmark but before they assault they sent planes in the seazone that the TTs are in?

Now you have a combat in that seazone and the fighter can scramble… correct? That should allow the UK to complete the amphibious assault.

I believe you are right cyanight. If the Brits sent planes there, that would create a hostile sea zone and the German fighter could scramble. Then, assuming a UK win, the UK troops could leave the US transports and land.
If the German fighter wins the battle, I think the UK troops would simply stay on the transports. Still nothing would happen to the US transports.

I guess you could say that the German fighter is patrolling up and down the beach, keeping the UK troops from landing. Of course, in real life, why wouldn’t the German fighter go out and blast the undefended US transports, right? Well, that’s the rules we live with.

The German fighter can certainly do that - on Germany’s turn.  But at the moment it’s UK’s turn, and the German fighter is defending.  Since the US transports aren’t attacking (it’s not their turn), they can’t be defended against.

  • Not to change the subject, but wow weird game for sure. I’m assuming there was a Sea lion and thats why the RAF is gone. The Luftwaffe must have taken a big hit in the battle too, or maybe after trying to take out the allied liberation navy.

Is that a Russian held Greece w/air base, and w/Red carrier and transport in the Med? Strange things happen in a Sea lion game LOL

Yea WildBill that does look like a Russian Carrier.  Its no Aquila.  Russia has 8 planes in Greece, crazy…

This needs to be fixed in TripleA because you can unload troops even if the fighter scrambles. See my screenshot. In this example the French are on a UK transport yet Western Germany has 2 fighters to scramble. The game lets you scramble the fighters but since its not UK’s turn they don’t do anything and the French are still able to amphibious assault.

  • Don’t trust Triple A for anything.

Here is my comprehensive list of Triple A issues.  Note that the developer used my list to add to the game notes, which warn you about most of these.

You cannot get off an ally’s transport in the combat movement phase (for an amphibious assault) if there is a scramble, and your power (France in this case) has no air or naval to combat the scrambled aircraft.
The ground units/transports are not sunk by the scrambled aircraft.  The amphibious assault is simply stopped by the scramble (all per Krieghund, G40 FAQ thread)

I had just experienced this in a game the past week. Thanks for the link Gamerman.
