@SuperbattleshipYamato Yeah I get you 100%. Alternate History is a niche interest in the first place so finding other people willing to go down the rabbit hole is always tough.
Monuments Men

As an architect and mild WWII enthusiast, I was pretty excited to hear about this movie, especially since they dragged the reclusive Bill Murray to be in it. I do expect some exaggeration of true events as only Hollywood could do. The idea of a bunch of geeky art historians joining an army expedition is pretty funny.

Gen. Veers,
––I read the book. It is an interesting story indeed,…and based on a true story. I hope we both enjoy seeing it soon.
“Tall Paul”

I hope to get to this as well. “Ocean’s 11” meets “Kelley’s Heroes?”
-
I want to watch the film.

Another movie about the rescue of Nazi-looted art is the 1964 Burt Lancaster film The Train. Sort of a combination of Monuments Men and Von Ryan’s Express.
-
just saw it tonight. It was really good. I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to read the book before i watched the movie, but none the less, It was very good. I definitely recommend it.
-
It was just ok. I thought it would be more funny with Bill Murray. I only saw it because i see every WW2 period film regardless as a matter of policy. The map they showed at the beginning was terribly inaccurate for German positions as of Spring 1943, almost laughable they had Germany closer to August 44.

True with the map, and their was some funny parts with Bill Murray, but overall I thought it was good

It wasn’t this but it was an enjoyable film. It was a rather nice change of pace to the CGI-fest, shaky cam, jump cut, whip pan style usually the norm these days. There wasn’t an edit every second and a half. Much more a bio-pic sort of thing than a caper or war movie. Probably a “girlfriend friendly” WWII story.

Well said frimmel, my wife surprised me by saying she wanted to see it. I found it a rather mild movie, but enjoyable none the less. I must admit, I had to go home and watch the second half of Pearl Harbor to get a lil action fix.
Go see it though, They got all the period vehicles right…even the Russians and to that I say bravo!
