Nice! Next you can make Lego Axis and Allies (if someone made a board, it will be insanely big as it’ll take a lot of pieces to accurately spell the territories).
Building model tanks
-
I’m starting a hobby bulding WWII era tanks, what should be my first five tanks.
1. Sherman
2. T-34
3. Panzer IV
4. ?
5. ?I got to build a Czech 38 tank, that is the coolest looking tank.
-
3 of course.
-
No Collection is complete without a Panther tank.
The crocodile is kind of cool… But then there is a madness that will drive to make a Konig’s Tiger. Maybe instead of the Panther. That was the ULTIMATE when it came to Tanks.
Unless of course again, you want to do the Panzer VI Tiger - Wittmann Special… :) :) :)
You have to add atleast one more german tank, of then above 3 listed.
After that… Consider a Marine LAV used in the Pac - that was a bad-ass piece of ill designed (Having to deploy over the side) machinery lol but cool none the less.
If you prefer another Soviet model, consider the KV-1.
Japanese/Italian Tankettes are lame.
Crusader, or Matilda would be another good choice.
-
No Collection is complete without a Panther tank.
Agreed – that would be my first choice.

What is the best brand of military models?
-
Try to start with a Panzer III or IV, M8 Greyhound or a T34, they are easy modell builts…
For Brands I would suggest Tamiya, Dragon and Revell maybe Italleri if still exists…If you want to add more accuracy and look to your modells you might wanna start off with some Aluminum Barrells and Photo etched Parts…Tiger modells and Shermans should be on the bottom of your list because I think you want to be allready comfortable with modelling such tanks…get as much photos and Informations on how to built as possible,( Magazines,Handbooks, etc)…and the most Important part is ,Have lots of FUN -

So how far are you?..please keep us updated…
-
Just started on a Czech Panzer 38T tank.
-
I think the most beautiful WW2 tank is the Jagdpanther.
I love the scene in Band of Brothers when one appears over that hill in the German counterattack in Normandy. (Actually the Tiger hiding in that village in Holland is good too.)
Good luck with your hobby, Worsham.
Will you do the Czech tank in Battle of France colours, maybe as one from Rommel’s 7th Panzer? Check it, but thought I remembered he had a Battalion of them. -

There’s a pretty good Jagdpanther model which is sold as part of “The Ultimate Soldier” line of action figures. I once bought one at a collectibles show. It’s not a model kit, but it’s got a fair bit of detail and it requires no assembly. Here’s one picture I found (click to expand) :

Thanks.
Did you notice it says : choking hazard.
I know I said I thought it was beautiful, but really do people do that?
I don’t love it that much! -
The other 2 I would go with is Sherman Firefly, and a Tiger
-
I’m thinking of keeping the color sceme of the invasion of the west. Still need to do more research.
-
How is this an Axis and Allies customization?

I think the warning had a more prosaic meaning, and was simply aimed at kids. I was once reading the package of a plastic model kit of the F-117A stealth fighter and I saw that, after giving a brief description of the actual aircraft’s flight characteristics, mission profile and weapons load options, it added “Not recommended for children under 5.”
-
Wittmann, survived Normandy, choked on a Jagdpanther. RIP 2012.
@Worsham: I have been looking too. The 7th Panzer did indeed have a large number of both Czech tanks. Not found a photo in my books yet. Not looked on the net. -
Worsham, I found a picture of a 38T in France in 1940 from either the 7th or 8th Panzer, tank number: 114.( Half of Hoth’s xxx were Czech tanks. )
Hope this helps.
Have fun painting. -
Rommel’s carreer as a Tank general began with the 7th Panzer with 38Ts as the main tanks instead of indigenous German tanks due to their reliability and superior AT fire capabilities. Pz IIIs had an inferior 37mm gun at that time.
There were as many Czech gun armed tanks as German gun armed tanks in the blitzkreig of the west. -
Meant to say thanks for that when you posted, Sargeant.
Worsham: have you started that 38T yet or still researching?
If you are happy with it, I would like to see a picture when you finish.
