Farmboy wins it all, all the marbles, all the glory!
Farmboy (x) beats gamerman01 (allies +4) in Balanced Mod
Round 3 of the playoffs, after he went through formidable Pejon_88 and the terrifying veteran Ghostglider. I couldn’t stop the train, finally losing Moscow and not ready to deal with that.
The 2024 league rules have been updated and posted as a sticky thread. The previous one has been kept in case changes want to be analyzed, but unstickied.
The main changes are:
Shortening up redundant language that has lingered for years
Eliminated the limitations on playing the same player repeatedly
Much shorter ranking rules because the ELO system doesn’t really need to be explained like the previous one did (because it was unusual)
OTHER honorable mentions:
Most games played:
Dawgoneit - 33
MrRoboto - 26
Simon - 25

huge congratulations, gamer is not an easy opponent at all! still, maybe having more competition this next year won’t hurt… i’d like to see @Adam514 sign up for the new playoffs as well.
@axis-dominion Just got a telegram - @Adam514 is joining the fray this year!
@gamerman01 that’s awesome to hear! i’ve been back & forth on the fence as i do miss playing, but that piece of news might be the nudge i needed! now if we can only find where @JDOW is hiding these days…
OOB L23 Martin (X) - Pacifiersboard (L+43)
Pacifiersboard over Martin

Congratz to the new league champion, Farmboy. Well played!
I follow the final closely, and it was an atypical game on the Eastern front.
The Germans were slightly behind schedule on the Eastern front and after turn 6 or so the German stack moved to Bryansk, allowing the Reds to launch an attack. The odds were clearly below 50% but in case of a success, the game may have been over in favor of the Allies.
The attack did not go the way the Allies wanted and left both armies crippled, including the Russian airforce which suffered from a 2/3 AA success by the German F.L.A.K.
I think one could argue that, from here, it was an uphill battle for the Allies.
The Axis headquarter remained calm and kept a cool head. Germans were not forcing any matters on the Eastern front but focused on stability, while establishing the Atlantic wall, including a massive German fleet protecting WGR and Germany. A fleet arms race developed in 112 and 110 while the Germans continued to stabilize on the Eastern front.
Japan was mostly uncontested in the Pacific. She let India grow to a massive size and never made a serious attempt to take India while focusing on dominating China and slowly eating up Eastern Russian territories, facilitated by Stalin’s order to send the entire Siberian army home. The Siberian army secured the survival of Moscow after the battle at Bryansk, but left Japan uncontested on the main land.
This way, the Axis achieved income parity, which, in many cases, leads to a slow death of the Allies, especially as Gamerman concluded the fall of Moscow was inevitable.
Thanks to both participants for the great show, what a pleasure this game was to watch!
I love that summary, thanks @JDOW !
You know you have to cover all high-profile matches now, do you?
2023 BM playoff second bracket Avner over Sovietishcat (L+4)
https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/40247/playoff-sovietishcat-avner-l-4/90?_=1704139266084
Congratulations on the championship game, and to Avner for taking it all and being immortalized in the league history thread!
Just want to make sure - do you both agree this game ended on 1/1/24 and should be counted for 2024 and not 2023?
Playoff implications for others! Thank you
One playoff ended 12/31 and the other 1/1?
Amazing, unprecedented.
And the bids were the same?! at an unusual amount. Incredible.
And yet another similarity! #1 seeds defeated at the end.
I will draw up the playoff brackets tonight, when I return home.
This also gives a few more hours for last minute signups from the last call yesterday.
We have a perfect 8 for OOB
We have 13 for BM
We have 11 for PTV
For BM we then have 5 players for the 2nd playoff.
It would seem there would be 1 play-in game between Dawg and Avner to gain the #4 spot, who would play #1.
For PTV we will have a 2nd playoff bracket of 3.
It would seem we should have that #1 seed get a bye and play the winner of #2 and #3
This is assuming no one signs up in the coming hours.
I hope no one is disappointed their game can’t start until tonight. The reason is in case someone wants to participate but hasn’t been online for a day or two and didn’t realize they need to sign up.
Thanks for understanding. In the meantime, you should practice rolling dice.
More seriously, there is a signup sheet with players in order (there are tie breaker rules for same PPG. The 2023 rules were that most games played breaks the PPG tie), so you can tell who your first round opponent will likely be!! Will be confirmed when the bracket is set tonight.
If you think you have a better idea (for the players who are not quite in the top 8 participating) than what I put above, I’m all ears.

https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/40247/playoff-sovietishcat-avner-l-4/90?_=1704139266084
@gamerman01 I think you are right, the game should count for 2024, but either way I am fine with it.
I do not know about Avner thinking…
PTV mikawagunichi (X+12) over Avandoo via russian incompetence
https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/40433/ptv-mikawagunichi-x-12-vs-avandoo/5?_=1704150262028
@Sovietishcat It’s 2024 unless I’m told differently, thanks, that helps
Happy New Year!
No one else signed up
Making brackets now…
Alright, here’s what we have!
(I also put a copy in the ELO spreadsheet - not sure if we’ll keep them current on both, or choose one)
BALANCED MOD 2nd bracket, we have 5 players. 1, 2, and 3 get byes and 4, 5 Avner and Dawg fight in round 1 and the winner goes up against Sovietishcat
2 and 3 elche and General Disarray may begin their 2nd round game now. Cat will have to wait for Avner and Dawg. That’s right, we may have another fight between Cat and Dawg
PTV 2nd bracket, we have 3 players. #1 mikawa is going to wait for the winner of Dawg and max to play for the 2nd bracket PTV championship
And what else do we have?
Like every year, the playoffs bring us the fun of old rivalries/matchups, and brand new pairings that would probably never happen otherwise.
Last year we had “what if Pejon won the first round and played Ghostglider??”
No longer! It’s going down! Get ready to rumble.
PM that poor sap who you’re about to defeat in round 1 of the playoffs, start bidding, and do your G1’s! Happy New Year, let’s play some A&A!!
@gamerman01 Oh shoot, I get to play the legendary @Adam514 in my first playoff game here. Sounds like a good hazing for the new guy!
