AAP40 Live Game

whats the giant carrier looking thing (holding two US planes) with the US fleet outside of Japan in the picture before USA 5.
The obvious answer would be a US AC but I dont think thats what it is. Looks like it is gray and and bigger than the other ACs on the board. Is it from a different game? -
i thinks its from aa naval minis
-
Looks like it’s ‘game over’ for Japan:
“R6 USA: Takes Korea from Hawaii. Takes Okinawa. Destroys fleet in SZ 20. Kamakaze kills 1 transport and hits a BB. No Kamakaze left.”
I guess the victory conditions must be harder to meet than in the original AA Pacific… no more India push = instant Axis win!
I’m more excited to play this game now, because of this outcome.
-
aaaahhh how did u let such an important fleet go so far into japanese territory undefended!?!?!?
-
excuse me…japanese waters*
-
What is that hugest USA carrier? I’m assuming it was a miniature or something???
-
wow that was fast! looks like its going to be an awesome game!
-
It’s turn 9 USA and we are still going. India is probably gone next turn.
-
Wow I thought it would end alot earlier haha, looks like Japan is coming back. Good stuff.
-
So what are the victory conditions?
-
Japan must capture and hold 6 of 8 cities and Alloes must capture and hold Japan.
-
Quick tip #1.
Before you start playing your first game, write out Japan R1. Since Japan goes first, this means whoever owns the game will play Japan first. Japan darts with almost too many units.Quick tip #2.
For the first few Japan rounds, you have so many aircraft it is difficult to figure out what came from where. Write some numbers 1-5 on the back of the control markers. Use these to determine how many spaces the aircraft has traveled. -
djenson,
Just wanted to say thanks for the tweets. I found it quite interesting to follow your first game. -
Quite interesting indeed.
Could you give us your thoughts? Did you feel that the game was balanced?
-
I’m not sure if it is balanced yet or not but I think it will take 2-4 games total to figure out if it is balanced or not. Maybe if I did not focus so much on China I could have pushed to India faster. But knocking out UK an India doesn’t really mean the game is over. USA becomes a behemoth very quickly and ANZAC has national objectives that can get income up there. I saw ANZAC collect 10, 15, 20, and 31 IPCs at the end.
-
Most importantly, was the game fun and or exciting? In your opinion how did it compare to previous axis and allies games?
-
I liked it better than the original Axis & Allies Pacific. Yes, the game was fun and exciting but also 10 - 11 hours long.
-
11 hours? epic!
A few questions on units… does mechanized infantry get a +1 attack boost with artillery? how many kamikaze attacks were there and did it work in the same fashion as the origianl AA Pacific?
Thanks!
-
No on the +1 for mech. infantry.
6 kamikaze attacks are allowed. I can’t remember how it works in the original AAP. There is a precondition to using the kamikaze and it can only be used in indicated sea zones. You must declare kamikaze as soon as the opponent moves into the sea zone where you want to attack. No Japanese units are involved.

Do you have a picture of the units on the map at starting set up?
