Got a bad set of rolls? Again? And again? Really, again?!

This is the thread to express your frustration. Please don’t rant about dice elsewhere. Constructive feedback is helpful in other threads so please open threads with feature ideas, solutions, merthods, etc. But here, here rant away.

Update: to further clarify, this thread is meant to be therapeutic but not at the expense of others, including the developers of the game. It’s just a place where you can “swear” at the dice and share outrageous stories.

Update (again): Psuedorandom number generators will never be quite as good a randomness in nature. But if it’s good enough for very strong encryption; it’s good enough for gaming. Beamdog has audited their dice results and haven’t seen any statistical abnormalities. That doesn’t mean you won’t see a string of bad or good luck. If you played as many A&A in real life as online; you’re going to run into some really weird situations. As much as I enjoy this game, it’s just a problem with the game design and we tolerate it because we love them game. With regard to dice, the only thing we should be demanding of Beamdog is a report 2-4 times a year about the dice. It’s just to make sure no bugs have been introduced and that’s it.

I dunno, a game where I’m yelling at truly bad dice rolls 2-3 times daily just isn’t fun anymore. And it’s starting to worry the cats. :smirk_cat:

I’m playing one game in particular. I have 7 infrantry, he has 1 infatrny, 1 artillery and 2 bombardments and I’m worried that I’m going to lose that battle. It’s been that way the whole game. I’m in the bottom 10% of results about 50% of the time.

I just got 2 unreasonable good rolls in a row. Also some bad ones mixed in. I feel like I’m shouting into the void. :wink:

@djensen You’re not. A russian sub first struck me twice in a row, you have to allocate your battles and buys radically differently than in the oob game because there are so many anomalous results and rules

@djensen 4 infantry just rolled 4 1s didnt have to wait to see what the armor and fighter unit rolled to ragequit after the first battle (chance; 0.0007716)

That happens. My concern is when it happens over and over and over again.

Here’s my latest rant, it’s not super extreme but here it is…

So we have

Attackers: 1 sub, 2 cruisers, 2 fighters
Defenders: 1 aircraft carrier with 2 fighters, 1 battleship

It’s a suicide run right? Just to hit and run, right?

Let’s look at the odds:

Now, let’s look at the result: (still no dice log)

I mean WTF? If my calculations are correct, this was a 1.7% chance of happening. The problem is that is happens ALL OF THE TIME.

These events are supposed to be the story of legend. “Kids, one time I rolled 9 dice and got zero hits and my opponent roll 2 and got 2 hits.” Not a daily happenstance.

1st forray into ranked went something like:

R1: 7 INF 2 ART 1 TANK Vs. 3 INF 1 ART 1 TANK

Defender wins with 1 ART and 1 TANK remaining.

FFS!! Honestly, I’m done. I’ll play through my remaining two games that that’s it. It’s not fun and I never roll so bad so frequently IRL.

And the rest of the battle went about the same. The 2nd set of rolls were average on both sides. The third roll was a blow out with nearly all of the defending infantry hitting.

Second ranked game has seen me lose a trivial battle of 2 INF/1 ART Vs. 1 INF. Yikes.

When you’re constantly swearing at a game because of dice rolls, it’s not a good thing. It’s not fun.

I lost 7 INF Vs. 2 INF the other day. That was a fun one.

I don’t complain about dice!. I’m reporting that the dice in Online AA are not random and have deliberate tendencies regardless of who or what says otherwise. Their is something weird about the results with too many 5-6 getting rolled . Ive had like 15 units of air and land all roll 5-6 and no hits. Then the defender misses with 5-6 results. Then in the next round, i hit him to oblivion. Then of course he hits with every unit ( even though he’s rolling 1-2, and i got many 3-4 hitters). My overwhelming force should have wiped him off in 1st round, but no. The IPC loses on both sides are usually the same even though i got such a larger force. This is one of a few tendencies i notice.
