@Private-Panic you’re up as Italy & Arabia
NML 1914 Team Game 8
-
@colt45554 We had some good battles, BUT made no ground… The setting does not really promote aggressive play… you fight hard over deeply entrenched 1 or 2 PU territories, and meanwhile Entente gets richer each turn.
may be it is just me, but I see no other path than Paris for Centrals to balance they playfield. albeit after Paris game is usually over anyways…
G40 and WaW are kind of forcing a strategy onto Axis as well, but NML seems really one tracked in comparison… hmm :-/
-
I’ll play again
-
@elrood If G can get industry and barrage tech early and concentrate on Paris, it has a good chance, depending on whether Entente also makes an all out defense of Paris.
Some balance is helpful for G, not ignoring its other fronts, but not overspending on them.
Russia is also critical, as its allies can’t rescue it. So an early collapse gives CP enough income to close the income gap, even if Paris holds.
-
@fmerwinrommel
Russia is too easily defended with trenches and Rekruts.
Paris can only fall if Germany is somewhat lucky with tech and early battles.hence:
I believe a buff for Centrals is necessary… e.g. that Türk buff that we had in play before… -
1914 has a mechanism to prevent play from going on endlessly. USA’s involvement starts slowly, but can gain income from many neutrals, which don’t need to be defended. So eventually, as long as the Entente is holding its own, USA can overwhelm a massive land defense by G and A.
Sort of like the game RISK, which could go on forever, with everyone ganging up on the current strong power, and back and forth. So RISK uses cards to earn free armies, and after a set of cards are redeemed for armies, the next set earns progressively more armies, until its such a huge amount that one power just overwhelms the others.
-
@elrood Since no-one ever goes for R from the off (before too many trenches can be built or bunkers discovered) with all 4 CPs co-ordinating against the one enemy they can all attack - which is also that enemy which is most remote from allied help - we will never know. Instead the received wisdom stops anything new being tried and thus anything new being learned.
-
@private-panic Also no Central power (except for Commies) has a sizable IC close to the Russian front. And cost of 20 is not something invested lightly in the early stages
-
@elrood Nor does any CP have an IC close to Champagne (which will become the western front) at the start.
-
I was thinking that instead of rolling we go on a rotation for what power we’re playing. of course since its just being mentioned we would have to figure what that rotation would be. and roll for the first round and start our rotation from there, that way we can all get each others perspectives. of course some of you guys are very good at this game and some might go very quick. I think its the only way we can get a true perspective of the game. I seems the same players are playing the same powers.
-
@dawgoneit its german choice, but, what if germany bought a complex and put it closer to russia for quicker response time. think that would be feesable?
-
Its all about the IPC’s!! I think,
-
@dawgoneit Leo made the case for a Germany IC in Prussia from the start as a bonus for CP. that does not sound too bad
-
@elrood as it is , Germany can’t go on the offensive on the Eastern Front , which seems so ridiculous. Being able to be build 20 units in Berlin, isn’t much use really.
Let’s give Germany that IC then and Turkey 3 Inf.
And I won’t play Britain. -
@witt agreed, the Berlin IC with the possibility to build storm troops there is really a joke…
-
@witt
A Prussian IC enables Germany to build to trade with russia at least.
And 3 Turk inf put some pressure on Arabia, although these 3 can be desintegrated with some early dice luck on entente part… hence I suggested adding that industry tech for turks, to shorten its supply lines. -
@dawgoneit G’s closest sizable site at the opening is W Prus, but its not near the front and an army would have to march a long way up the Baltic coast to St Pete and pass Belarus or capture Bela first. Stockholm is closer to StPete and protected, but G would have to build tt’s and conquer it first.
Would giving G a free IC in E or W Prus make any of you more likely to go for kill Russia first, rather than Paris first? If G goes for Paris first, the are already enough G troops on eastern front to not need to build in Prus IC, until or unless Paris is unattainable or captured. Austria has to be the primary eastern front guy, while T needs to attack from the south. C by nature is already always attacking from Asia.
-
@fmerwinrommel i say a free German IC in Prussia increases the chances of a successfully Russian campaign from impossible to plausible. 😎
-
@dawgoneit Some players have deliberately avoided choosing the bigger, more prominent powers such as G or UK, even when they could have. So I think everyone should speak out if they strongly support or disagree with rotating.
-
@fmerwinrommel what if its not germany that gets the complex but austria instead.
-
@dawgoneit makes sense!
