Yeah, it’s odd the game refers to it properly but the fans don’t.
Buying a Destroyer for the Soviet Baltic Fleet
-
What are your thoughts on upgrading the Baltic Fleet with a Destroyer on R1 or R2? With a full scramble possible from Leningrad, Germans would have to commit a decent sized force to take it down. I could see it being a legitimate buy if Germany buys Transports on G1/G2.
-
@alphakappa If I was the German player then I would just ignore that build, any Baltic fleet can’t really hurt me and that fleet couldn’t pass the Straits anyway- it’s better to build inland units from Russia’s meager economy to counter any German ground strategy!
-
@nolimit I sorta agree with this, but at the same time one destroyer can make a way bigger difference than 2 artillery. Situations are situational as is the case with all the allied strategies.
-
I’m not sure what you plan to gain from the DD that helps the Russians.
Mostly, the first turn the germans attack the Russians they don’t need the fighters, so they are free to sink ships. One more DD doesn’t change that. The germans can transport men north unimpeded until they attack, so you aren’t stopping any German reinforcements.
Maybe I’m a poor German player, but i don’t focus on the Baltic. Just go overland until Russia is destroyed.
-
@surfer that’s fair, but as I said before it all depends on the situation, a Baltic fleet could make a huge difference, particularly in operation sea lion
-
So yes, a Destroyer won’t do much more than often but in a few scenarios it could prove to be worthwhile
-
Sorry guys, the only situation i see where you may buy a destroyer with russia is when germany buys 4 transports G1 and 10 transports G2.
Even then it is a questionable buy.

@oysteilo yea buying ships with the ussr is not a good idea
