Anyway, get out there and try that new game - you’ll love it, I can tell!
I guess it might be better said this way:
Hierarchy of versions for the playoffs is:
Based purely on date of introduction (earlier introduced, more wide familiarity)

@gamerman01 So if I am understanding you correctly, for 2020, the official League Playoff verison is first OOB, then BM3 and probably Path to Victory. If Path to Victory catches on like wildfire then it is a possibility that in 2021 Path to Victory may be the default Playoff game. As a new Player to BM3, I am only playing in my first game and it is dramatically different, this comes at a perfect time. Instead of trying to learn BM3 I can instead learn Path to Victory.
Yes, the official league (and playoff) version is first OOB, so that players coming to the league are not forced to learn and adapt to BM3.
I’m glad you asked, because I think I said the wrong thing before about the beginning of the year thing - I’ll need to edit that. EDIT MODE!
OOB will still be the official default in 2021 because the physical 1940 game that is widely available to the public is the most popular A&A physical game that is available for purchase by the public. So technically, a player could insist on the OOB version in the playoff, however, if that same player had never actually played anyone OOB during the regular season, then it wouldn’t be right (and would not be allowed) to spring it on an opponent to try and gain an advantage. The reason OOB 1940 is default is to not force new players to the league to change to a different ruleset, or in the case of path to victory, a whole new map. Practically speaking though, every year everyone generally plays the latest and greatest mod of the game that almost everyone in the league has been playing.
So I will not allow an unsportsmanlike “surprise” demand on an opponent to play a version that’s foreign to him. But if a player had been playing OOB (the default) in the league at least a couple or few games during the year, and insisted on OOB in the playoffs, that would have to be honored.

Thank you for the replay and as I new person I totally agree. I have been playing OOB for about 8 years now versus the one game of BM3 I just started since coming here. BM3 is very different than OOB I am at a significant disadvantage experience wise versus someone who has been playing BM3 for a long time. I also agree with your point that the game model played should not be a surprise to try and take advantage of someone in a single game but to create a level playing field for all.
Depending on how things unfold between now and December, I could see more than one ranking for the league in 2021 for different versions of 1940. In fact, we could start a separate ranking for Path to Victory version now, if there is a lot of support for that.
Don’t worry about that last sentence. It would have to be a LOT of support. I guess I used those same words lol but I want to stress it - because of playoffs and 8 games and all that, the results of all games for all versions of the game will stay together in 1 league ranking for the rest of this year, unless there are dozens of games played in path to victory and if an overwhelming majority agrees they want it split off.
I’m pretty keen on the separate rankings for p2v. Seems pretty significantly different. Possibly, it will go through a few evolutions from here and may change a fair bit.
P2V is a very different game, but still, the basics are the same. I’d say the different versions are close enough in order to keep them together regarding statistics.
Thanks a lot guys, love the feedback.
The big reason I don’t want to split off in 2020 is because players switching to PTV will then not have their efforts go toward qualifying for the playoffs. And what trulpen said.
But it depends on the level of popularity and support which we won’t know for a little while. So I’ll track PTV wins and losses from now on so that we could always split them off if there are dozens of games and practically everybody wants that.
I don’t believe that separating them is a good idea. I just think that everybody should know how to play OOB/BM3 (theyre similar enough in my opinion) and have PtV as another option if both players want to do that.
Great point washer, PTV will only be split off if there are a lot of players, and most of them are playing it exclusively
i’m not 100% sure but i think you can just put 1 piece per spot. is this true?

That’s the default, but if in mutual agreement you may deviate from this rule.
Anyone know how to roll on the forum?
I know it’s changed from the old system right?
