Thanks for finding time to comment Cromwell.
The 30th Jan, and this event,is not an anniversary I forget: it is Al’s father’s birthday. He has always enjoyed its place as he is anti-monarchist and anti privilege, despite his (state funded) public and Oxford education. It is funny as his wife’s parents worked in the colonies after the war, so politically they do not see eye to eye!
Prohibition: not while I breathe you won't!

Today, 28th October, in 1919 the Volstead Act became law.
Alcohol was banned: prohibition began.
I remember once asking an American what this was. I remember being shocked to the point of incredulity. The person was obviously joking:alcohol was completely banned!
What?
And that was passed and accepted by everyone?
Long live European drunkeness, I say.
Still cannot believe it. -
