    The rules specify that transport is not allowed to offload in a SZ containing an ignored sub unless accompanied by a warship. As sub is often considered a boat not a ship, I always assumed a TT had to be accompanied by surface warship, which is why I parked the UK sub in SZ 43. Am I wrong about this?


  • @ArtofWar1947 You are not wrong. However since I brought a ship with me I can choose whether to attack the sub or not. I declined the attack. If I had chosen to attack, you could choose to Submerge or Remain, which would have given me a decent chance at victory still (60/13 draw/27) so 73% chance to still land.

    Let’s make sure it is legal to skip the attack in the rulebook and not just a TripleA thing.

    Doesn’t Block Enemy Movement: The “stealth” ability of submarines also allows enemy ships to ignore their presence. Any sea zone that contains only enemy submarines doesn’t stop the movement of a sea unit. Sea units ending their combat movement in a sea zone containing only enemy submarines may choose to attack them or not. Sea units can also end their noncombat movement in a sea zone containing only enemy submarines

    I did have to move a warship there, as an unescorted landing was illegal, but I don’t have to attack the sub.

    I used the word warship but I was including sub in that definition and you were not.

    Submarines do not make the sea zone hostile, I can choose to attack it or not–as long as I have a unit that can attack it. My submarine can attack yours, but I can choose not to. Therefore it counts as a valid unit to bring a transport in.

    You are correct that the submarine would have blocked an unescorted transport from making an amphibious assault during the Combat Move phase. TripleA does execute all of these rules correctly as far as I know.

  • @ArtofWar1947 Damn. I was debating the submerge option back and forth myself. Honestly I had expected you to go for the guaranteed kill with an ANZAC fighter, and not move the US fleet off Queensland so you could land it on a carrier there. But I might not have run odds for that attack, I must have a good chance of sinking everything for you to move off to NZ.

    Still got an uphill battle here for myself I think…enjoying this match immensely :)

    Thought about putting the combined Allied fleet off of Queensland, but my recollection is that the odds were about 50% with all three CVs, and I needed one CV and some air to protect the DDs and SSs in Hawaii.

    Definitely an interesting game.
