I had kept a written copy of my moves and builds from our first 1914 game. But I made some changes in sub attacks and stronger defense in Africa and remembered to combine and trench Shanghai. I couldn’t risk having great dice in Shang, like I did before, when you threw your troops against my G defenders and I took over the rest of Shang that was empty. Ha. Only bad battle was Gib, where 3 subs attacked 2 Brit warships and lost, despite 80% odds. I passed up sinking an undefended tt to make that attack. The sub attack in Irish Sea succeeded with just 70% odds, so I can’t complain. In my first team game as G, I lost the Irish sea battle, giving the Brits a big naval advantage from the start.

Turkey is fun to play, except the opening turn they have reduced income. I said to myself, I should do Kuwait before Basra, because its more risky, only using 3 units. But Basra was before it in the battle choices and I knew that the earlier battle really wasn’t any luckier than the later. But Basra rolled great and Kuwait rolled terrible. It must be that I just notice it when the rolls are great or not when its in a certain order. I know sometimes my first battles go badly also.

Me either. Don’t know why you tried. The Combat hit differential stats don’t reflect the lopsided sea battle. That will have a significant effect on the European game. G will have to build a replacement fleet. Perhaps G should have its 4 subs attack the Eng Cha for a similar impossible attack. Rus always seems so vulnerable at the start, but after it consolidates its forces on turn one, its more formidable. Except, I haven’t been able as Rus to conquer the Communists. Which is probably good for balancing the game. Otherwise, Rus would be too powerful on the Euro front. I like the various strengths and weaknesses and interplay in 1914.
