My son (Cool just discovered my AA-games (seeing me carrying the big AA50 box Wink) and wants to play a game with me.
Ha ha ha. Looks like Christmas comes early for Santa this year. :-D
Give him China in the 41 scenario!!! grin
I think the point is to get him involved in A&A, not drive him away ;)
For a first time player, I would give your son Italy. Just not one of the Allies. Sometimes it’s hard for a new player to psychologically recover as vast chunks of their empire are gobbled up and he’s suffering defeat everywhere. I made the mistake of assigning a new player to UK once. All he could do was watch helplessly, like a bystander, as all of the other nations were actively involved. Yet all he could do was build transports and subs which would get sunk by German air the next turn. I think he eventually settled on buying bombers and cashing out at 18 IPCs per turn.
Japan and German are two very advanced nations to play. They definitely require the most “choices” and likely the most thought to get the most from. Sure, you often see Japan running wild. But it’s in a very controlled manner where the Japan player must constantly check he’s not outpacing his supply lines or that his troops can’t be maximized elsewhere. Also, I’m not sure his Axis buddy would approve if the choices being made by his powerful ally was actually 8 year old kid wet to the game. It seems like you were trying to punish him for some reason. ;)
Italy is a natural choice. It’s small, limited options, no one pays much attention to it, and there’s room to expand. It’s a great tutortial to learn how to play the game while still building a African Empire. Also, nothing says father-son quite like Germany (you) and Italy.
