Industrial complexes, airports and naval ports miniatures for Global version
-
Hi all, this is my first post and I would like to say ahello to everybody and thanks for the great forum and materials.
I’m playing Axis and Allies since I was 18 (I’m now 33) with a group of friends, and a couple of day ago I bought the two 1940 versions to be able to play “global”.
Now, a question: I’ve read (the boxes are not yet came to my home) and I’ve seen that in this verion there aren’t miniatures for industrial complexes (wich are of two types), airports and ports. Since I would like to have these miniatures instead of the paper tokens, can someone suggest me where o buy some decent miniatures of that kind?
Thanks for all who will want to answer.
PS: sorry for my english, I have not many occasions to write in another language (I’m i

Everything is here including other things you an add to make your own house rules.

we use pieces from risk and other games, there is also a custom map image file that has all the bases pre-printed on there which is convenient.
Someone at the club found little plastic anchors on ebay, you can find lots from old games that are broken up.

Hello, and welcome to A&A.org.
So, you want something better than paperboard factories, airfields, and ports? HistoricalBoardGaming.com (HBG) is certainly a good place to go for all of those things. But it is not the most intuitive place to go looking, especially on your first visit. Let’s see if we can scare up some direct links for our guest…
Factories
You can get a set of major and minor factories for A&A G40 here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/1940-factory-set-48set_p_2806.htmlOr you can just get some lay flat acrylic markers here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Factory-Marker-Acrylic-x5_p_809.html
Airfields and Ports, combined
You can get a combined set, which has all you need for A&A G40 here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/1940-Acrylic-Upgrade-Set-76set_p_2807.htmlSadly, that set is currently out of print (I bring it up for both future browsers, and to show some of the breadth of what is available at HBG).
Airfields and Ports
You can find the Airbases from the combined set here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-WW2-Airbase-Small-Marker-Acrylic-x5_p_1523.htmlYou can find the Naval Ports from the combined set here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Naval-Port-Marker-Acrylic-x5_p_2779.html
And you can find a large set (25 vs. 5) of the Naval Ports here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Naval-Base-Marker-Set-of-25-Acrylic-_p_725.html
Why they don’t have a large set of Airbases? I don’t know. Perhaps it’s there and I couldn’t find it either.
Other items of interest
So, the combined set had other acrylic markers besides Airfields and Ports. You can find those below:Damaged Markers (for wounded Capital ships) here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Damaged-Marker-Rectangular-Acrylic-x5_p_953.html
Convoy Markers (for taking your enemies’ money) here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Convoy-Marker-Acrylic-x5_p_829.html
Kamikaze Markers (for taking your enemies’ ships in style) here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Kamikaze-Marker-Acrylic-x5_p_830.html
And, to add some other things that might be of interest to you
Paper Money (because who plays Axis & Allies to be an accountant?) here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-WW2-Battle-Bucks_p_2835.html
Acrylic Country Markers (or Roundels, as some call them) are also available. If you get everything else in HBG acrylic, you might want to upgrade them as well.
A full set for A&A G40 here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/1940-Roundel-Upgrade-Set-160set-_p_2888.htmlAnd rather than chase down about 9 more links on an already long posting, I’ll just point you to their Roundel section, if you are looking for something more. HBG Roundel area here: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Roundels_c_622.html

Don’t worry about it. Some of the worst abuses of the English language on this website come from those whom English is a first language, I’m sure you’ll fit right in… :-D

Just be forewarned - replacing everything in A&A G40 with pieces from HBG is an expensive proposition.

You could also look on www.thingiverse.com for some simple to print markers for industrial complexes, harbors, and air bases. I use a Prusa printer with the multi material upgrade, thus the harbor and air base are in four parts for the four colors intended to be printed together.

Aside from the previous excellent suggestions (notably perusing Historical Board Gaming’s website [HBG]), there are some cheaper alternatives out there that might suit your needs.
You can obtain the industrial complexes from earlier versions of Axis and Allies from second-hand sources such as E-Bay… simply do a search for A&A industrial complexes, a lot of times you will find people selling them separately on E-Bay at very reasonable prices.
Since Global 1940 uses two different types of Industrial Complexes, a lot of people (at least that I know) like to use the “cities” from Risk Revised (2008)… once again, this version is out of print but was mass produced at the time and if you do a search on E-Bay for Risk Revised cities, you can find very nice sculpts that work great as Major Industrial Complexes.
Just some additional options aside from the others previously given… all valid choices.

Thanks you all for yours suggestions, I find the Solutions F Roma HBG very cool even if a bit expensive. I decided to buy the Flat acrilyc markers for industrial complexes beacause I like the idea that all the complexes are identical (and in this way I’ll be able to use the same markers for all the countries).

As for industrial complexes, I used grey ones from a previous set to represent the large IC.
For the small IC, I again used pieces from old A&A sets. This time, I used white ones from the “classic”/1987 edition but cut them in half height wise.
They look exactly like the grey IC’s but are shorter. Looks great and nothing is too altered to be G1940 specific. As for the airbase, I coloured (spray painted) some fighters from the classic game to represent bases. Not as happy but the fighters are distinct/unique enough to stand out.
Thinking of basing them somehow to really look good.
Seaports are a work in progress. So far I cut aircraft carriers in half and trimmed them up a bit. They look like a dock with a building on the one end side. I will paint them grey and see how they work.My big thing with tokens is everything else in the game is three dimensional. Great looking sculpts which need 3-D tokens. They should be generic to stand out and be used by any player.
Just my thoughts.

Litko (http://www.litko.net/) sells a large variety of markers (some flat, some 3-D), made of laser-cut acrylic…for example:

On top of everything above, EBard’s shop on Shapeways as great pieces for airfields and naval bases as well.
https://www.shapeways.com/designer/ebard/creations?s=192
He has a couple different sizes of naval bases, I went with the smaller of the two. He has two or three different airstrip pieces as well if you want variety or options. He also has shipyards and drydock pieces as well if that’s more up your alley. If you play Global War by HBG, they are perfect for that game.
But, Shapeways is not exactly cheap. I wouldn’t say they aren’t worth it (I have a decent amount of his stuff, and it definitely adds great detail to our games), but if you’re looking for cheap, they may not be the way to go.
