I made a video about these. If anyone is interested in a set, let me know.
Gauging interest in customized Hit/Miss dice (Update: ORDERED!)
-
Following a thread in another sub-forum, we are looking to guage interest in the following custom dice for use as “hit/miss”;
white with one side marked
red with two sides marked
Blue with three sides marked
Green with four sides markedall other sides blank, explosions on marked sides. Now you can roll all the dice at once and look only for explosions and ignore the blanks.
This is not a guarantee and interest will weigh heavily into actually getting these produced. We have several quotes in (and are awaiting several more) from manufacturers.
Of course colors and symbols are up for debate as well. -
minidice as the nation sets or standard size? round or casino corners? thanks

All up for debate really.
Our quotes submitted are for standard size 16mm dice, round or square corners dont make a difference in price or availability.
But really, Those things arent even in consideration unless its feasable to do a minimum quantity manufacturing run.

I think producing dice like this is a good idea.

@Herr:
I think producing dice like this is a good idea.
Thanks. I would really like to. It will come down to cost vs interest/retail price in the end. More quotes coming though!
These would be etched + painted dice most likely, not silk screened. 16mm is what we are getting quotes on, but we could do smaller (larger would be cumbersome), such as 12mm dice.
-
For the dice, what would be peoples color choices and in what order (1 to 4 hit sides)?
For example;
1 - White
2 - Yellow
3 - Red
4 - Black(based on quotes we’re getting, this is going to happen, we just need to hammer out the details)
-
These are fine but would like to see a grey instead of yellow plus dies have to have rounded corners for me.

They quite likely will be 16mm (standard size dice) acrylic with rounded corners.
I’m not sold on Grey myself. White, Grey, Black and Red feels rather dull.
There’s also the potential to add a 5th (hit mark on 5 sides) for those games where you hit on a 5+.
-
Here’s my preference…
Black for 1 hit symbol
Dark Green for 2 hit symbol
Dark Blue for 3 hit symbol
Blood Red for 4 hit symbol
Dark Purple for 5 hit symbol -

I like this choice of colors; maybe green instead of yellow is my only suggestion.
-
you only need one to four, not 5
white
red
blue
green dice -

blue
green diceTo make them useable in multiple games (not just A&A), 5 is required as there are games that “hit” on a 2+ (ie: 5 of 6 results = hit).

These dice have been ordered from the same manufacturer that does our IPC’s.
They have given us a manufacturing window of approximately 35 days, plus shipping time.
Expected Retail Pricing will be $3.95 per set of 5 dice (or $1 per individual die)
16mm, rounded corner, acrylic, printed dice, 5 per set
More info when they arrive!
-
OH quite right . have not considered that.
I would buy at least two sets and i do enjoy my chip set, thanks! One thing is the tech chips should have the global 40 techs

This is exactly what i would have done. Acrylic is best. Sell them in groups of 5, but allow ordering of just 1-4 in case we don’t need 5 different types.
I would say $5 for 4, or if you order 5+ its $1 each.
Also post some proofs of the dice colors and “explosion” graphic to make sure we are on the same page. Perhaps some greens or blues are better than others?

It would be very cool and make our choices a lot easier if we could see prototypes please? If it is at all possible? Thanks for the effort!

Unfortunately there won’t really be anything to see until the product arrives.
As with anything, it won’t be for everyone (you can’t please everybody of course), but it’s another tool in the arsenal.

What’s the latest update on these? Did they ever become reality?

I LIKE THE IDEA…
Just the color selections made it impossible to buy them.
They migrated from the original idea as well.

Why do you say the color selections make it impossible to buy them? The colors seem to make pretty intuitive sense to me.
