    @Imperious:

6 is plenty of pieces for a set up of 10, why be disappointing?  I mean its is very clear that Japan would never “separate” them, just like it is very clear that the IPC board (which goes up to 50) will cover it when USA goes to 57+ on turn 3.

Does not even go up to 50 goes to 48….so when a person would do a double stack to signify they “rolled” the chart you could say “oh 50 and the token is at 7 so 57”…you had to go “no wait it is at 55 ipc”.

Yes math is easy but just made it where you had to take half a second rather than a 1/4 second glance is all. :)

  • Here’s what I foresee for future versions of A&A boardgames:

“Player aid” cards (set up charts, IPC track, battleboard etc) will be printed on the mapboard. :?
Only the “new” units introduced to the game will be provided. Players will be required to provide pieces from previous versions of the game including dice and chips.  :x
Only one of each of whatever new unit being showcased in the current version of the game will  be provided: players will have to create markers for additional units on bits of paper.
The rule book will only include errata for the last version of the game and new rules for the new units.  :-(
The map will be printed without mounting on recycled theme park map paper. It will be folded into the size of a wallet to maximize annoying creases that will obscure borders and data in the “player aid” sections. This will increase traffic to the official website of people asking for clarifications. They will be ignored.  :-o
Games will be packaged in ziplock bags. But not real ziplock, the cheap knockoffs that don’t stay shut.

Complaints will be responded to with messages acknowledging “known issues” of which only the least expensive will be corrected, if at all.

    Have I missed anything?   :-D :-P

  • Actually I think they will do the game D&D style, where you have to make up everything as you go along.

  • The main reason many people play this game is because they don’t want chits or chips. But WOTC doesn’t get it. There are plenty of good games already out there that don’t have nice plastic pieces. The main selling point of this game is the plastic pieces so WOTC should ensure we get plenty of it.

    OK all you ney sayers…

I got a little yellow envelope in the mail today from WOTC containing…

    6 Japanese Tac Bombers.

I hate to say it but, that’s a point for WOTC.

The letter I sent them is in this thread. Again, nothing special other than telling them 6 is not enough. The letter that came with the extra 6 was from Sam.

    Go get your bombers everyone!

  • Congratulations.

  • Anyone got any chance? I’d like to get more tac bomber too. But I got a reply that they’ve got extras only for broken/missing gameboard

    Robert

  • I too got an envelope containing 6 Japanese tac bombers.

  • Just curious Butcher, did you also get Sam as your contact? Wonder how long he will continue sending out tac bombers before he gets a “talking to” by management. lol

I got Jamie and was escalated up to Troy but they said nothing about sending anything out other than the battlestrip.

Some days you win vs the Inconsistent-Customer-Service-bear and some days the bear eats you.

I just sent an email to WOTC noting the inconsistencies…I’ll pass along any follow up.

  • i just sent WotC another email asking for some more Jap tac bombers. If I do not receive any AAE1940 will be my last AA purchase. Too much money to spend on a game and there is not enough pieces for set up. Thats a shame. WotC should have been sending out extra pieces as soon as the emails came flooding in requesting more.

Here is the response that I received from WotC:

The units you see that were sent out in the forums were for for orders that occurred before Game Support had received the correct piece count for the game. So, unfortunately we cannot provide you extra pieces for the game. We do have a limited amount of replacement pieces, but those are for games that are defective, which include having broken or misshapen pieces, or if a game is missing pieces that are supposed to be in the box.

We do appreciate your feedback regarding the number of pieces provided in the game and have passed the comments on to the game designers.

    Thank You

Here is the response that I sent WotC:

Thank you for the quick reply. Axis and Allies Europe 1940 will be the last of the games that I will purchase from your company. I find it very unfortunate that a game calls for 10 tactical bombers for set up and only 6 are included. I will be buying games from Days of Wonder and Academy Games from now on. I have never had this poor of customer service or have bought such a shoddy produced game in all my years of buying board games. This is a shame.

    Thanks,

They never indicated that these were their reasons in the correspondence I had with them. Sorry to get you’re hopes up  :-(  I take back the point I gave them. I really thought they had decided to do the right thing  :x

If they have any respect or concern for this community which is the only group that supports the A&A line (other than 1942 at Target) of games, they will give everyone extra pieces with their new battle strips. If they don’t, we should flood their inbox yet again. Don’t give up the fight. I know it seems like all we’re talking about here is 6 plastic pieces, but it’s the idea behind it. With the problems in the game, all we as a group want is a solution. We want the game to be the way it was intended to be by Larry. Not full of missing pieces and incomplete rules.

If we want to have Larry continue to make great games for us we have to continue to support A&A. Please don’t stop buying these games just because WOTC has poor execution. Instead, we must get together and force WOTC to fix their mistakes. Or, as group, we must convince Larry to find another producer. Either way, we win and get to have Larry continue to make great games.

Sorry for the rant, but I fully expected that EVERYONE could get the pieces they need and we could put this issue to rest.

    I guess not :x

I understand what you are saying in supporting Larry and I agree with that. However, since 1942 was released WotC has been cutting corners by not providing things that used to be a no brainer like IPCs, chips in abundance, correct battle boards/strips, reference cards with piece purchase price, movement, attack and defense points, etc. This is a serious problem and asking people to spend the money that WotC wants for this is beyond insulting. I for one am not going to support this just because a box has Axis and Allies printed on it. Sorry for this but my money will go towards better produced games by other companies like Days of Wonder for Memoir '44 and Academy Games for the Conflict of Heroes games. They have much better production in their games and the support on line is far superior to what WotC has to offer.

I certainly can’t disagree with you on any of that… I’m just trying to protect the future of A&A, wether it’s with or without WOTC.

I guess my point was even though I got my extra pieces, I’m not giving up the fight to make them give us all more value. For the sake of all others here, my 6 tac bombers has not quieted me or made me support WOTC. Everyone here deserves what they paid for and I will continue to voice my opinion in support of that with the people at WOTC. While I’m thankful I have my pieces, I’m happy to support whatever we need to do to deliver this message to customer support.

    –End rant.–

Heh heh, I guess the early birds got the tac bombers. I can envision some bean counter running down the hallway shouting “stop sending out TAC aircraft! This is going to cost us tens of dollars!”

I recall when WotC messed up the unit count in the first Axis & Allies Pacific, you could at least go to the Hasbro customer service page and purchase units by nationality to make up the deficit. (Their actual solution was to send out a bag of infantry which was at least something). In fact, I purchased a complete set for both Pacific and Europe just to do away with chips, and it cost a lot less then buying two more copies of the games. Now they won’t even let you do that. I’d gladly pay $7 or so for a set of Japanese units than have to buy another entire game at $60+. Which would be a waste, since all the other piece counts seem to be perfect unlike the earlier versions.

i am thinking the same thing. I better call on monday.

  • Others on the forums are getting Japanese tac bombers. I emailed WotC today and they are still not going to send any to me. I think that I am done with this company. Any one want to buy some used Axis and Allies games? I have all but 1942. I am done with WotC and will not buy another game from that company.

  • If you are selling your extra AA40 pieces, I’m sure interested in acquiring them :)

Other than that, I think you shouldn’t abandon the game because of them. AA is a great war game and even if its done poorly, we, as players, still have the right to enjoy it. If the quality continue to be that poor, I will probably not buy the future game. But that doesn’t stop me from playing the forum game

    Robert

I don’t have “extra” AAP40 pieces. That is the problem. WotC refuses to send any more Japanese tactical bombers to anyone but a few people. My game is actually short on pieces.
