Pick your Battle of Britain fighter
-
I have started building WW2 models. It’s got me researching weapon systems.
If you had to choose your TOP pick and LAST choice in fighter aircraft that participated in the Battle of Britain, which aircraft do you pick?
Spitfire
Hurricane
Me-109
Me-110
Defiant
Fiat G.50 Freccia
Fiat CR.42 Falco
Bristol Blenheim
Gloster Gladiat

I’ll be uncreative and say Spitfire. Bf 110 is kind of novel though.

@SuperbattleshipYamato Can you imagine flying over the Channel in an Italian bi-plane?
-
Sounds scary and tough.

Has always been the 109E for me, probably slightly disappointing my loving RAF grandad!

Hi AB
I’d probably roll with the Spitfire even though there were a lot more Hurricanes in the Battle.
109 was badass too but it’s gas tank was too small :)
Hmm … maye i’ll give the movie a rewatch. Been a while lol

The Top Scoring Fighter Ace Of All Times was Erich Hartmann from the WWII German Luftwaffe.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was his favorite - maybe this can be part of your inspiration.

The 109 is the most dangerous looking of the Battle of Britain fighters.

For me, it would depend on if I was the pilot, or the air marshall…
Pilot - BF109. The later spits outperformed the later bf’s, but 1940, in a straight dogfight, the 109.
BUT…
If I was looking at it and commanding at the high level, the hurricane. Easy to fix, easy to produce, fast turn around for reload/refuel, easier to train on, fighting over your own territory with a full tank. Yep - the hurricane.
