@Panther Thanks for clarifying. It may be best not to even include a carrier with a guest fighter when attacking.
Sub on carrier?
-
So question. Submarines just instakill carriers unoccupied? Lets say a carrier with 2 planes on it is alone, no destroyer or other ships, and a sub attacks. Does that mean the carrier just sinks?
-
@Swoldier good day.
No; that is not right, I am sorry.
The Sub strikes first. If it misses, the Carrier gets to shoot back with a roll of 2.
Each Round goes like that.If the Sub hits, then the Carrier goes down, without riposte. Any Fts on board can move one space to a friendly territory or to a Carrier with space on board.
-
@Swoldier Just to add for completeness: It needs two hits to sink the carrier.
-
@Wittmann Ok thank you, i wasnt sure a carrier alone could hit a sub since carriers have no defense and planes cant hit subs without a destroyer
-
@Swoldier said in Sub on carrier?:

Carriers do have a defense. They defend at 2.
They don’t have an attack value. -
@Panther my group has been playing it wrong for quite a while then lol. Thanks for the clear up

Hi
Chiming in here, while a carrier takes 2 hits to sink, it can’t carry planes after 1 hit. Is this correct? So technically the carrier might survive with 1 hit, but the cargo is lost. -
Yes, but the cargo has a range of one to reach friendly land.
See following scenario:
- American submarine attacks japanese carrier in SZ 6
- US scores one hit, opponent tips carrier
- US retreats
- Carrier is tipped and the planes land safely on japan.
-
@Marty-R It depends on the situation:
Scenario 1:
A carrier with planes (same power) is the attacker: In this case the carrier and the planes move independently, so the planes are already in the air while the carrier moves. So the carrier does not actually carry cargo when it is hit. However the planes can’t land on a damaged carrier and need to spend their remaining movement points to (hopefully) land.Scenario 2:
A carrier with planes (friendly power=“guest aircraft”) is part of the attacking force: In this case it is only the carrier that moves, as the friendly planes are cargo. In case the carrier is hit only once the planes are stuck on the carrier until it gets repaired, as they can’t launch from a damaged carrier when it is their turn.Scenario 3:
A carrier with planes (either same power or friendly power) is the defender: When the carrier is attacked the planes are considered to be defending in the air. So the carrier does not actually carry cargo when it is hit. So when the carrier is hit, the planes need to search for an alternative landing place within the range of 1 space. (This is @koala 's above scenario.)By the rules planes are only considered being cargo when they are on a friendly power’s attacking carrier (“guest aircraft” - scenario 2). And cargo simply sinks with the carrier, there is no extra move.
