GARGANTUA'S $200 TOURNAMENT OF EXTRA DEATH AND PAIN (TripleA Only) 2xELIMINATION

  • '18 '17 '16 '15 '13 '11 '10

#1. FIFA style sounds fine. 4 teams/Group. 3 games at a time? Then knock-out phase.

#2. As many as is interested.

    #3. Sounds fine w/ally moving/answering within ~24 hours.

#4. Locked bid sounds fine. Random side.

#5. Maybe a rule against allstar teams (all-tier-1).

  • '12

No more than 2 tier 1 players per team I agree with that.

How about if each match consists of 2 games played simultaneously with each side playing axis in 1 game and allies in the other game.  Same bid in both games.  In case of a tie, Gargantua decides the victor by his professional judgment of their skill and sportsmanship; or if he judges them to be of equal ability and integrity he can decide it by a forum die roll.

    Hi guys, I will play.

My suggestions, but will play whatever the rules are:

    1. Quick + easy start playing between the teams + comparable results for the ranking, so I would fix the Bid for all games to 20 (16 or 18 if you think 20 is too high, I don´t think it).

    2. Teams play 2 rounds with each other with switch sides (home/visitor system).

    3. Limit 1 Tier 1 per team, so lets make the teams similar skilled.

    4. If more than 16 teams, 4 groups randomly created, 8 teams qualified (1st and 2nd qualified per group) pass to quarter finals (1A vs 2B, 2A vs 1B…), then semifinals and final. These 3 last rounds would be played randomly for Allies or Axis and only one match.
If less than 16 teams and more than 8, same system with 2 groups and no quarter final (direct to semifinals).
If less than 8 teams, best 4, play semifinals and then final.

Each team plays 2 games at the same time or more, but no less, then the expectation for round 1 is around 6 months, then quarters, semis and final may last another 4-6 months to complete a 1 year tournament.

    1. 48-72 hour limit (I would personally say 48) for each movement by someone in the team with no exceptions (equal for France or Germany, lets make it simple), except team advices on inconvenience and opponet decides if they accept or it is a loss.

    2. No tech, regular dice (may be low luck for round 1), NCM edits accepted (other edits depend on opponent permission), bid placement restrictions: 1 unit per territory where at least one allied unit exists allready.

    Like Karl says:

    KILL KILL KILL :-D

I would really vote for a simple system which gives at least theoretically a chance to finish the tournament withing 6 months.

Thus I definitely prefer SINGLE ELEMINIATION and - please don’t hate me for that - just one game per round.
I also vote for normal bids then - this would at least reduce the raffle effect as e.g. Axis lovers don’t need to play Allies by chance and “just” need to offer very high bids to get their beloved side.

I still like the idea to simultaneously play 2 games with switched sides, however I don’t know what to do in a 1-1 situation. I think a 3rd game would definitely take too long and I am not sure how a tie breaker could be found to make a rather quick third game.

I just learned from the previous playoff brackets that even 8 players single elimination took more than half a year.
And please keep in mind: the league takes a year and everybody is totally fine to accept the league champion who also “just” played 3 single elimination playoff games.

A single A&A game takes very long already, I simply think that this (imo) disadvantage should not be enhanced by a complex and probably bloated tournament system.

    my 2 cents.

Hello Gents.  I have decided to end my sabbatical from this site, mostly due to the urging of my buddy Boldfresh, and of course, out of respect for Garg and his tourny.  And, I’m getting tired of playing the Euro-losers on DAAK…

I’m in.  Seth the Noob is my partner. GLAHF.  Death and Pain to you all.

Like too late for me to join? I would not mind joining in the loss bracket. Or if anyone has a partner who dropped from the tournament I would gladly fill in.
