Identifying destroyers
-
Hi guys, I’ve heard of guys painting the bow or stern of the destroyers to help more easily identify them vs cruisers or even in the storage boxes. I know it doesn’t matter which end gets painted but I’m curious if the forum has a preference as to which end gets painted. Ok thanks guys.

I like the tip painted if anything. Fletcher DD s are painted orange so you know there a bit stronger in game.

It’s all personal preference. You might paint the bow (front), the stern (back), the funnels (smoke stacks), the turrets, or something else. The key point is to be consistent in whichever feature you choose.

It’s all a matter of preference, of course, but here are a couple of related reasons why painting the stern is a good option. Most (though not all) A&A destroyer sculpts have transom sterns, meaning that they’re flat, which means that looking at the shape of the stern is already a good way to distinguish destroyers from cruiser sculpts (whose sterns tend to be pointy) – so by painting the stern, you’d be attracting attention to their most distinctive characteristic. Also note that if you paint just the flat vertical part of the stern, the paint won’t be visible if you’re viewing the sculpt from the front or the side. The benefit is that this doesn’t mess up the appearance of your sculpt too much; the drawback is that you won’t necessarily be able to tell at a glance if a sculpt is a destroyer, which may not be what you’re trying to achieve.

I’m not going to win any painting awards but these work for us. I’ve no intention of painting the entire fleets so keeping the base country’s colour was important.

Wow. Something different.

Would there ever be metal die cast pieces.

Mine got national flag decals or painted on. Cruisers on the aft, destroyers mid ships.
@general-LD
The only metal ones I know of that are close in scale are GHQ’s micronauts at 1/2400.
