I’m going to go with the scramble.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that response to a SZ92 stack. Interesting, I hadn’t even thought of it, or I didn’t think it would work. Perhaps because I normally land a bunch of planes on Holland to protect the plane which has to land there.
While I could have put 2 planes on Algeria and another transport load, you could have used all the Italian planes to support the attack. I suppose then maybe things become a bit thinner because you have to kill the French ships,
And I was sloppy with not buying a US DD.

The biggest factor are the 2 German subs that are supposed to be killed after UK1, without the sub, the attack becomes more costly.

So still possible, just perhaps a pyrrhic victory without the subs. Interesting.

You can just run the numbers and look at the expected TUV change. In a standard 110 attack the TUV gain for the German drops significantly against a scramble.
For this 92 attack, the TUV change remained the same, scramble or not. -
I don’t completely agree. I’d rather kill 10IPC of planes than 20IPC of BB G1 as the allies. The BB might be able to be killed later and it normally only gets one roll.

fact is: Many players don’t scramble when they should and let Germans get away with greedy openers. And yes, the scramble gains significant value in case the Bismarck goes to 111 instead of 110.
