About the early India grab,you also bought an AA instead of inf/art which made the stacking of Burma significantly easier. Declaring with UK and leaving that stack in Burma was a mistake in my opinion.
Yeah. I think I underestimated how much you could land in Burma and assumed I still had enough to take it. The AA seemed to make sense since it was a better defensive unit against your air.
Hey farmboy, I have followed this game and you showed great fighting spirit. I guess you meanwhile have realized that it is too late to turn the tide but as long as you enjoy the game, keep going :-)
Regarding the unprovoked DOW in round 2. I guess this has cost you the game. Frankly, unprovoked with Anzac in round 2 is a horrible idea, unless you either prevent Japan from loading units with that trick (move UK DD in NCM into Japanese fleet and declare war with Anzac then) or if you KILL Japanese units during the DOW. Just collecting some bucks is definitely not worth it.
In your case, IF you want to do unprovoked you need to do it with UK and attack Yunnan then PLUS you need to stack Burma so that Japan cannot take it (Bring Anzac ground and air to Burma). If you can accomplish this, you can do unprovoked with UK, if not, do not do unprovoked.
Your Chinese dudes also partly played into Japan hands. It is usually not a good idea to offer few units in Sze exposing them to rather cheap airstrikes.
Either stack Sze full or leave the units in Shensi. You added Chinese units to Sikang after Chi 1. This does not make any sense. Either put them to Sze, and if not, put everything to Shenshi.

thanks for the feedback Tobias. I’ll have to go back and look at those moments again. On the ANZAC DOW Probably I was expecting a J3 DOW and figured I should get the jump on it to get the money. Will rethink that next time.
One thing I’d be interested in feedback on (from you or Adam or others) as well is on the G4/J4 Dows. I’m curious how much of that was planned and how much of that was a reaction to how the game played to that point. I also expected the later Dows to favour me (especially in the Pacific). That clearly didn’t pan out. Was that a function of me failing to capitalize on it (and especially messing up my India/ANZAC/China play) or are there other advantages to the later DOWs or other mistakes I made that were more consequential.
And I tend to enjoy games that I am losing more in so far as I find desperate playing more fun. Although its even more fun when that desperate playing can turn a game around.

Alright. I think you have too many ways to win now. I could hope to get lucky in one or two cases but not in all of them and especially not the UK. So I will officially concede. Thanks for the game. I really enjoyed it. If you are up for another later in the year, I would love another one. And would be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

One of the most difficult to answer question was where the Axis would win, in the Pacific or in Europe? You chose Europe by pressuring India :wink:.
So feedback:
-Not sure about your decision to stack Gibraltar and leaving Egypt. It turned out fine I suppose. But the DD in 94 doesn’t do anything since the Vichy ships don’t block Axis movement.
-If you don’t let the German fleet into the Med, then it’s rarely a good move to go for Scandinavia with Russians since Germany still has a navy to reinforce Norway. Going for Scandinavia in this position was a mistake.
-A combination of buying a lot of US navy for Europe early in the game with a delayed JDOW is not a good decision. If you think it’s going to be a J3, US1 buy should go Pacific because it has time to move into position, while Atlantic buys stay at port anyway. Plus you declared on Turn 2 with nothing to show for it, which again delayed US and saved Japanese tps.
-Your Pacific strategy of sacrificing units to stretch and delay Japan is a viable strategy in BM, if the Axis aren’t already making as much as the Allies. It does a good job of delaying Japan for the amount of resources it costs.
-You did a good job of holding Volgograd for those 2 rounds against the Germans.

I see your point about the US naval buys. I was thinking that your choice to do a later JDOW meant that you were setting up for a Europe victory and that I needed to get units in the Atlantic first to open the route. I’ve got in the habit of buying mostly Atlantic in the first two rounds so that I could react to Germany and thinking that I have enough in the Pacific already to slow Japan. But yes, the later JDOWs mean that the impact of that spending gets delayed and I suppose the ANZAC DOW made it easier to postpone JDOW as well. That is something I’ll revisit and I think too that my early choices are now too habitual rather than responding to the game.
My hope in Scandinavia was that as the Russians grabbed Finland, the US and UK could drop into Norway. But couldn’t put any pressure on the German fleet soon enough and couldn’t coordinate it.
My Axis play lately has also been to focus on Gibraltar first and Egypt second. This is partly because my opponents have stacked Egypt but its also to deny the med and that naval base. Once I’ve taken it, I’ve been able to hold it at the cost of committing a fair bit of German air. I figured that you were going for it and that I needed to hold it to be able to threaten the coast and slow down Italy. I tried to save the UK BB there too which essentially wasted a chunk of UK spending.
I’ll be up for a rematch in a few weeks I think. I’ve decided I need to limit myself to two ongoing games (for life reasons) and I have a couple of other folks I owe rematches to as well.
