My plan was for the US to engage the Italian fleet for one round and soften it up for the UK. But strange, the US was not given the option of retreating. Despite the slight overkill of 6 hits, I’d rather not sacrifice the bulk of US air.

You should be able to retreat, so you can cancel the second round of battle despite dice being rolled. Just edit those casualties back.

Actually, you wouldn’t have to ask. No scramble for certain. The figs can at best get 3 hits, but are likely only wasted.

I wanted to check because of the opportunity to get rid of the UK subs and perhaps weaken the UK fleet enough for a counterstrike by air. But I agree, no scramble is the less risky option.

Then you should ask. I usually assume, but if I feel any slight hesitation I also feel I have to ask about scrambles.
