John Brown's Painted Axis and Allies Pieces

  • '18 '17 '16 '15 Customizer

I will be adding pictures to my German thread on the 1939 HBG map, but not tonight, because I’m tired. All pictures of my painted pieces will always wind up in their perspective country’s thread, on a map.

    Thanks again. :-)

Those are incredible John. Very good work. I love the camo scheme you used and the color for the decks.

  • Superb paint job!  My congratulations!

  • '18 '17 '16 '15 Customizer

    Thank you both.

I was worried at first, how I was going to tie it all together, but through trial and error, I just kept working on it. The carrier decks were the hardest, because it took five coats for that color, and then scotch taping the lines of the deck took awhile.

I didn’t ink wash or dry brush, because I don’t know how to, not make a mess, with a tri-colored camouflage.

It didn’t workout for me. I kept messing my paint job up, or I was doing something wrong.

    I don’t know which.

I thought it Ok, for this being my first navy to paint.

    Thanks again, guys. :-)

When I use ink or wash its very important to make sure the piece is really dry. Sometimes I let them dry a couple days.  I’m not sure if that is what your talking about with the camo running together.  Regardless, I think you did a fantastic job!

I tried to do a grey wash, but it was making the white and grey, dirty looking, but I appreciate that you all have enjoyed them. :-D

Pretty cool man. I like your take on the HBG subs. Very unique.

Thanks LHoffman, I wanted something outside the norm on the subs. I’m glad you liked them. :-D

    Cheers!

  • Really nice work John I’m loving the uboats. I wonder what other nations submarines would look like now with a camo scheme.

Japan, Italy, Russia, France, Anzac and the UK, I have special plans for those countries.

Not sure what I’m going to do for the US, but I have some off the wall ideas, but I will be on Germany for awhile. I still have over 250 pieces to do. Germany by far will have more pieces, because of the 3D units, then the US and Japan will have a lot as well.

Phew, I’m winded thinking about it, LOL. :-D

Nice job! I could only wish I that I had the patience and steady hand to do that.

You do learn patience. Unfortunately, I have shaky hands which makes it harder to paint, but I’m trying. It still is fun and rewarding, when you see your work on the map, because it almost looks like a different game.

It brings a map alive. :-)

Guys, after one year, I’ve started painting again. I probably will not do as many paint jobs at one time, as I once did.

I will be doing a few at a time and hopefully posting pictures more often. I put to much stress on myself, in the past, and I was trying to do too much, instead of painting, for the enjoyment of painting.

I was beginning to dread it, but now I more enthusiastic about it, and my health has gotten better.

If you remembered the last time I was painting, I was going to attempt the German ground forces, as well as the infantry, for the first time, but I’m going to wait till I finish some American planes, that I will be adding, to the planes that Spitfire is painting for me, currently.

Here is my first paint jobs, since last year.

I did 4 American F6F Late War Hellcat Fighters.

    Enjoy! :-D

My man! Gotta give props to all those variants, that takes time! They look great, I have yet to do any German, looking at your variants, I don’t know what scheme to use for mine lol.

I know what you mean about shaky hands, this is hard to do in our old age, my hands hurt from holding the micro brushes, I wrapped one in duct tape, so its WAY fatter, helps, but there is still pain there. I also know what you mean about seeing the board with the painted units, it is different. I was not even planning on painting the units, I just wanted an easier way to tell destroyers from cruisers… just the painted decks alone, was enough for me to know, it was paint time :)

    Keep the pics coming!

Yes, I started with Germany, because there are so many schemes they had. There is the traditional green camo scheme and gray colors, but then they had the desert, winter, as well as the SS camo, which I may do on the ground vehicles and infantry.

They even had the blue camo on the air force, which Cyanight has used on some of his planes.

They are the most fun to paint, and that is the reason, I started with the Germans.

Yes, getting older is no fun, but I do the best I can.

I will certainly keep painting, as long as I can.

    Thanks for the comments! :-D

Here are 3, US Early War Avenger Torpedo Tactical Bombers, I painted, this past week.

Definitely, not my best work, but it will have to do.

Even though this was just a solid color piece, it was one of my most difficult pieces to paint.

Painting the red and white stripes was a hard task, because my hands were show shaky.

These particular decals, were the worst, I 94 has produced, because they broke off so easily, but I got them done, to show you.

    Enjoy! :-D
