• I think they are printed on the map, so no cardboard

  • i hope no card board (like i don’t just use the plastic ones from older games anyway.)

Just roughed out an eastward expansion of my map to reach India. Need to read more about CP invasion of Persia to finalize this; may make Makran and/or Afghanistan impassable, but that makes India invulnerable.

Also need to research the various tribes in Arabia.

Wondering if its worth adding Haiti:

what game is that map for?

My own version. Always like to make my own game from the best bits of those coming out over the next few years.

Actually it started off as an old AAE map of mine; this is what I want a WWI game to  be. The national colours are for reference, I prefer plain green for the map with relief and railways printed on it. Turkey should be tan rather than orange, I’m limited by the prog’s palette.

  • then why are you posting it in the Axis and Allies 1914 forum? shouldn’t that go in the Axis and Allies Varients or House Rules section?

  • But Haiti must be in Larry’s game.

I suggest they start with 3 dreadnoughts, 2 cruisers, 3 tanks, 2 artillery and 6 infantry

    This.

  • +1, please leave house rules in the house rules forum.

  • Taking another look, I am 95% sure bulgaria is under German control.

  • I managed to copy and paste it into a PowerPoint, which then let me stretch the picture to fit the page.  When I view it in slide show mode, it pretty much fills up my screen.  It does start to get a bit blurry at that point, but you can still make out some details.  I can’t figure out how to post it here though.

Is the picture you’re talking about the WotC PDF mentioned in Reply # 1 or the map shown in Reply # 35?  I’m not sure to which one you’re referring.

Oh.  Sorry.  I meant the WOTC flyer.  And I only grabbed the little rectangle with the picture of the map, box, and playing pieces.  You can’t actually read anything printed on the map, boxes, or battle boards.  But you can tell that there are some charts and such printed on the map where the Sahara is.  Also, if this is the actual set-up in August 1914, it looks like the Russians are about the take a beating.  I see two large stacks of Austrians, and one large stack of Germans, each with about 7-8 infantry.  It looks like the Russians don’t have more than 2 infantry per territory.  So I’m guessing there must be something in the combat mechanics that prevents a blitzkrieg.

Ah, I see – thanks.  When I click on the WotC link for the PDF, it gets automatically displayed in Adobe Acrobat (at least on my computer).  Acrobat has a feature at the top that lets you adjust the magnification level of the PDF.  The default magnification for the A&A 1914 PDF is 77.8%, but Acrobat lets you select various higher pre-set percentages like 100%, 200%, etc.  You can also manually type in different percentages of your own.  The big picture of the box can be displayed at 400% magnification while still remaining fairly legible.  For the smaller picture of the board and sculpts, 300% is about as high as you can go before the details become uncomfortably blurry.

Am I the only one who can see a meerkat on the game box?

  • So are we thinking that the red disks are 1’s? That’s what I thought but i’m not used to it.

  • “So are we thinking that the red disks are 1’s? That’s what I thought but i’m not used to it.”

Well, there are dark red and light red, and dark blue and light blue.  So maybe light red/blue for one unit, and dark red/blue for 5?  It looks like the Allies use blue, and the Central Powers use red.  Except that the Italian and American units have red chips under them.  Maybe because they are still neutral at this point, and neutrals used CP chips for some reason?

By calculation, if USA enters on turn 4 then Italy must enter on turn -5.

Otherwise, Italy was officially a member of the Triple Alliance with Germany & Austria until it flipped in April 1915.

One interesting question is: if Italy is neutral for a couple of turns, can the Allies attack Italy in order to get at Austria south of the Alps, and if so does Italy then join the CPs?

Or, as I’ve suggested, can the Allies never attack neutrals?

Unless, like Haiti, they’re suspected of harbouring German sympathizers, or hiding weapons of mass destruction. Not that America was in the Allies then, or indeed ever.
