Thank you Teslas for your annalysis. I had not done the math either. Our group has used the house rule for a couple of games and it has not deminished the need for tanks nor have we found it to be an overwhelming advantage to the axis. The UK player has made good use of the rule as has the US players. I have no mathmatival data to counter your information and numbers do not lie but our rolling sucks…excuse me; inhales vigorously. I can’t hit a one or a two to save my life some games. Mechs by themselves do not eliminate the need for Germany to build infintry and I do not feel (I recognize it is just a feeling and an opinion) that they will not eliminate the need for tanks. Time will tell I guess as we try this rule out.
Why 1 less UK infantry in Egypt??
-
The final official setup for Global 1940 has 1 less Brit infantry in Egypt than alpha 3. I’m just wondering why? Anyone got a good explanation?
-
Have we not heard the answer yet because it was an error? The fact that it is one of the only differences from the A3 setup combined with the situation where depending on whether one is playing Europe or global the setup there is different seems a little to coincidental to not be related to some confusion on the part of whoever authorized the printing.

Because Italy’s navy gets blasted by UK before they even get started. The compensation is one infantry.

So does Home fleet too

But Italy gets 10 IPC a turn, UK can rebuild faster.

But Germany’s air can help give italy cover.
-
German planes are being used to sink UK warships, they in most cases have little prospects of protecting far away Italian vessels unless they abandon sinking the British fleet and just move to Italy and lose the opportunity.

Instead of hitting both z110 and z111, Germany might choose to go for just z110 and sink the French fleet and Yugoslavia. Look at the med if Germany hits z106, z91, z93, z110 and puts off sinking the z111 crowd til G2 (with 3 subs, cruiser, carrier, planes). It almost forces UK to do Taranto. z92 is no safe spot without the French fleet and not enough blockers to prevent a landing in Transjordan. If they hit Taranto the Germans will scramble to save the Italian planes, then Italy counterattacks and might just get NOs for no allied ships in the med and South France/Greece/Gibraltar on the very first turn.
The key to this approach is a G1 build of 1 carrier, 2 subs, save $2. Don’t use artillery in yugoslavia. Earn $68 and you will have $70 in hand to build 10 transports if sealion looks good after taranto.
