I mean according to the battle of Castle Itter, there was a SS officer that helped the allies out.
Best World War I Movies?

What are the best WWI Movies?
-
All Quiet on the Western Front, hands down!
-
yes the remake, not the original.
-
Paths of Glory is a neat movie.

Great choice. Tim Carey gave an excellent performance. My other favorite is The Blue Max for the vintage aircraft and Ursula who has been locked away in the defunct KSG thread.
-
Gallipoli with Mel Gibson!
-
A Very Long Engagement.
I swear to you, even though it’s only centered around WW1, you’ll love it, you’ll SO will love it too. It’s the best guy AND girl movie I’ve ever seen. It’s got something for everyone. Check it out - seriously.
Just a heads up though, it’s in French with subtitles. By the same dude who made and starring the same chick from Amelie.
-
How is this movie? Von Richthofen and Brown.
-
I loved this when I was a kid.
-
Lawerence Of Arabia
-
Gallipoli and Flyboys i thought was pretty good too…dont watch much WWI stuff though…

@Imperious:
yes the remake, not the original.
While both are good, I think the original All Quiet On The Western Front is a better movie.
-
Lost Platoon was my favorite one
-
Zeppelin - with Michael York and Elke Sommer - always had a thing for airships.
The Blue Max - A classic tale of air combat.
Anzacs (the war down under)- a 1985 Australian film/mini-series, had Paul Hogan in it a year before Crocodile Dundee.
All quiet on the Western Front is a given.
And as honorable mention for a TV show : Blackadder Goes Forth.
-
I also forgot gallipoli with the young mel gibson
-
Sergeant York
The Lighthorsemen
Also, The Big Parade - silent, made in the 20’s, I think.
I believe that some of the films made closer in time to the event have the advantage in accurately depicting not just battles and such that we are interested in, but the uniforms, equipment, speech, attitudes, actions of soldiers and civilians.

All Quiet on the Western Front, hands down!
yep, the original for me, i’ve never seen the remake.
the blue max is a great movie. the leads performance reminds me of the determination to win as is seen in there will be blood.

Blue Max was a good movie.

This one looks good:
The Red Baron - In theatres in 2010
After von Richthofen paints his plane red one of his comrades urges against his decision pleading, “They’ll spot you from a long way off. We’ll completely lose the advantage of surprise…” The Red Baron’s response is effing badass.
