    Just noticed that interceptors and escorts are not discussed in the rulebook but are listed in the faqs as an optional rule. Was this from oversight? Second, are players using escorts/ intereceptors  in games, league or otherwise?

  • its not an ‘official’ optional rule but something that perhaps didn’t make the cut because it was not clear that it worked well with the standard rules.

  • Official Q&A

    On the contrary, it is an official optional rule.  Everything in the FAQ is official.

    That particular rule was in the playtest version of the game almost from the beginning.  Larry debated for quite a while about whether to include it in the final rules, and eventually decided to leave it out.  After the game went to print, he changed his mind, reasoning that there’s no harm in optional rules, as people can include them or not as they see fit.

  • Damn,

    I thought we were gonna be able to finally get some hot babes to hang out with us as we play the game… you know, an ESCORT SERVICE.  :-P

    some of my posts dont get responses so I have to resort to puns to get them read. sorry to disappoint.

    I would still like to know if this “optional rule” is being used in most of the games played on this forum

    Good to know your mind is in the gutter too :wink:

    Not in my experience. Mainly because its not in the official rulebook as an optional rule, so people don’t think its part of the game. To me its only ‘official’ if its in the rules except when its errata because of unclear rules.

    If its something you want to do, start a thread in “looking for opponents” stating you’d like a game with them in, and you’ll probably get someone to play you. It has not been typical in my experience.

    Crap, axis and I had the exact same thought…now I have to go wash out my brain! hehe.

    Seriously, if these boys has “escort service” there would have been no war!

    we’ve used it from the start, figured it was overlooked in the initial rules.  nice to see it made the FAQ at least.

    I totally agree. If its not in the out-of-box rule book, then common people wont play with them. Its as simple as that. Millions of people have purchased A&A games, but only a dozen read this forums, and get access to optional rules like the “Escort Service”. Bottom line is, that when you join a playgroup, you better follow the rule-book that come with the box. As it is today, this escort rules are treated like a house rule, no matter what Krieghund or Larry says.

  • Official Q&A

    By that logic, you should ignore the errata and FAQs as well.

    If you are playing with folks that don’t look these things up on the internet, don’t you think you’d be doing them a favor by introducing them to official designer corrections and clarifications so that they can play the game as it was intended?  All it takes is a printer.

  • Larry Harris is teh big boss on all rule questions, even if we don’t play the game 100% OOB including with or w/o official optional rules. For my part, I could do with only one small change….LL…although some people think of LL players as infidels, but this is how it is, imo, we should use as few “house rules” as possible, but few people play A&A 100% “clean”.

    @Craig:

    It doesn’t fit the level of the game, unlike the level of A&A Europe and Pacific.

    Craig

    Why not? Is there that much difference between theatre and global?

  • Official Q&A

    @Craig:

    Well. I don’t remember this as a rule during playtesting.

    That’s because you hated it and wouldn’t use it. :-P  It was in there for a while, and my group used it in several games.

    Didnt mean to stir up a hornets nest here. I just thought I was asking an obvious and simple question.

  • it is honest! man, escorts for counting points, serving beer… jeez who wouldnt play AA then…

  • @Craig:

    Well. I don’t remember this as a rule during playtesting.  I remember discussing it, but I never liked it and fought against it.

    Aren’t those conflicting statements?  :-o

    @Imperious:

    who plays with common people?.. certainly not the dozen people here…
