I think this is the end.
I lost the initiative on both sides of the board 3 rounds ago and have failed to gain it back anywhere. Italy is done, Germany has a huge amount of space to defend in Europe, requiring most to all of this turns purchase and the redeployment of my AirForce. I will now no longer be able to advance in Russia, and in 3 turns will have to start to retreat. Japan is going to be unable to hold Singapore, and subsequently SE Asia, with the obvious knock-on effects. If I try to hold SE Asia, I will no longer be able to handle the tit for tat on the money islands nor hold the Carolines; that is a faster road to ruin.
My attempt to repeat my success by holding Gib hard and early seemed to only help you, draining resources need to take down the Russian bear. And I was a half a step behind where I needed to be in the Pac with the aforementioned loss of those 2 TTs. I think my J1 attack put me too out of position. Good initial boost to the income, but lost time to consolidate a strong long-term position. I’d like to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks for the game again, and yes I am happy to switch sides for the next one. Personally, it’s always a bit of a catch 22 for me, because I think the Axis are more fun, but the Allies are more likely to win, at least with my own skillset, especially with average league bid being around 9-10. I think 12 is easily fair.
Japan is considered by many the most difficult country to play. Fighting on at least 4 and possibly 5 fronts, while somehow having to maintain control of the sea lanes and getting enough land units everywhere they need to be.
I think a J1 DOW is difficult to pull off in PTV. The partitioning of the sea zone off Malaya made the “Calcutta Crush” strategy from OOB impossible, so you have to play the long game a bit more. While I still think it is net beneficial for Japan (due to the many cheap/free kills you can get on J1 and only J1), I think the cost to the European Axis of getting the US in the war more quickly generally outweighs the benefit to Japan. That being said, I still love my J1 DOWs and still do it a fair amount of time.
To make it fair, would you like to simply keep the bid at 10 and switch sides?

I was waffling on the J1. I do not J1 in BM4. But P2V seemed to offer a good hit on the allies, while being able to grab a couple of NO’s for a quick boost to japan’s income, which Japan sorely needs.
I am excited to see how one more familiar with this board plays the Axis. While I have no preference on sides overall, I do envy the Allies goal - the Axis have to win, the allies have to not lose. Big difference.

Cant edit my posts all of a sudden. wanted to clarify - I often J1 with OOB. But not BM4. For the effect on the other side of the board.
