Very cool! Your fine of violating neutrality helps explain why it wasn’t done in real life.

What happens to Portugal’s 2 infantry?

However, whilst Portugal was certainly an ally of the UK, I doubt Spain and Portugal will be on opposite sides:

“Not assist aggression against each other” is definitely open to interpretation though. Maybe it won’t matter if we just assume it means that Spanish and Portuguese units can’t attack each other which they can’t anyways?

Spanish units should be allowed to invade Gibraltar though, it was important for Franco.

Overall, this is one of the best “what ifs”, as I’ve been thinking about it for a while.

If it doesn’t break the game too much, other countries like Turkey can join either side.

    @the-captain Cool ! More stuff :)

Obviously it’s early in the testing, but my initial impression doesn’t see the benefit for Germany. It would take 3 rounds of control to pay for the takeover cost, plus a fairly large initial invasion Force.

You have the 6 Spaniards, but probably need German help as well to defend it, which thins your Defenses elsewhere.

It would give the Allies another way to invade Europe from multiple SZs.

Idk, maybe the extra 2 bucks gives one the Economic Victory ? Wouldn’t think it’d matter that much.

Anyway, be interesting to see how it plays out :)

    Edit
I guess it’d be easier to conquer GIB, which was pretty much the real life reason, and reinforce it, keeping the Allies out of the Med.
    Be fun to find out.

The main reason for Germany to launch Operation Felix-Heinrich is to threaten or capture Gibraltar with Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS units - instead of building up a massive German Naval Force that would otherwise require a massive amount of IPC.

By controlliong Spain, Germany has an option to continuously put pressure on Gibraltar - and hopefully deny the Naval Base to the Allies.

What we’ve seen so far is, that after a succesfull Felix-Heinrich operation, the Allies have to build up a massive defensive force in Gibraltar.

This moves the Western Front further away from the German mainland, where Germany still can easily send reinforcements.

Operation Felix-Heinrich is most likely to be launched after a German Take Over of Italy.
At the time of the German Takeover, the Eastern Front should be stabilized, which should give the Germans the possibility to send the necessary units to invade Spain.

Germany has 3 major reasons for launching the operation:

    1. Threaten Gibraltar by capturing Spain
    2. Capture Gibraltar with invasion forces from Spain and/or Southern France and achieve a National Bonus Income of 5 IPC (including Greece or Egypt).
    3. Capture Gibraltar and deny the Naval Base to the Allies.

When Operation Felix-Heinrich is combined with an increased German U-Boat offensive in the Atlantic, it could be a decisive blow to the Allies.

So controlling Spain and Southern France gives a bonus of 5 IPCs? Sweet!

The Operation Felix-Heinrich rule has been updated.

  • @The-Captain

    Awesome :)

Reading this again and I’m thinking denying the NB to the yanks is the most powerful.

It adds a extra turn :)

Most importantly is, that Gibraltar is constantly threatened by Axis invasion from mainland Spain.

This gives the Axis control over the passage through Gibraltar by surface ships.

Also, by capturing Gibraltar, the Axis prevents the Allies from using an important Naval Base that can threaten Western Germany by a sea borne invasion.

    Nice.
