Looking for special books - Any help?

Have you ever heard of the book called If The Allies Had Fallen? It examines many what ifs of World War 2, with all of them very grounded in reality. A lot of the chapters are written very differently, from basically scholarly analysis to what the history books would have said had the timeline changed in the way described. If you had read the book, what do you think? Thank you!

yea is real surprising King didn’t convoy from the get go. USA did the same thing in WWI, not learning from their allies. A bunch of guys got slaughtered because of it.

Do any of you have any recommendations for a book on Orde Charles Wingate?

I’m going to go with a guy not on the list, Col. Aaron Bank. This type of mission sounds right up his alley…

I vote with these guys!  It is not a tank but it is a very powerful armored vehicle.
I love that beast too… a real good self propelled gun to be more specified.

Imo, no, WW2 was all about production, tech, manpower and what allied powers you had.

While manpower won WW2 special forces played an important role. The British commando raids on Norway played a major role in Germany’s decision to build up major forces in the region. When Germany surrendered in 1945, over 400,000 German service men were stationed in Norway!

Germany should never invade us in the first place…  :-D

My point is that the “special forces” of WW2 did not play an overall important role, compared to what modern special forces can do during peace time, and against third world countries who does not have a modern army.

I would say, even if the British commandos was better than the average British soldier, I think it was the “hit and run” tactic which was very wisely used in Norway, as compared to a small number of soldiers who was better trained than the usual ones.
